We've built a tiny (14k seats) fucking Ice hockey stadium in 201 for Championships and it cost 90mil euros.

Same with our highways, we've been building 300km stretch of highway for like 7 years.

And those are just the first two examples that come to my mind of blatant corruption where bought out contractors and politicans pocket most of the money without being punished.

I work at a naval hospital somewhere in where Florida. Several years ago we had a $5,000,000 "total makeover." What changed you may ask? They changed the carpet in the lobby, switched out about 20 cabinet sets in some of the patient rooms, painted some of the walls, and put wooden chairs in the waiting rooms. Five million dollars. Every single employee in the hospital was pissed even though it didn't personally affect them. It also took 12 months to do this.

A famous example of perverse incentive is when the US government awarded railroad companies money for each mile built.

This produced the shittiest rail imaginable with the maximum amount of bends and loopbacks because they were paid by the mile laid, not the cheapest or straightest route.

Zero lessons are learned from this and we still reward failure, such as failure to build a road on time or on budget. Just piss away more money. And that's before we account for the kickbacks and hands greased.

Getting out of the trades was one of the best things I ever did. And now I got an even higher paying job, that works less hours and is easier to do.
