This triggers me the most about (((Common Core))). Math is/must be absolute and precise (as possible), meaning there's only one answer. In pic related, for example, it's the question that's written wrong. It must be specific so it only yields one answer.

This is a far easier method for kids to understand as its a two step process. Breaking up the numbers is nothing new but that counting up shit seems overly complicated.
