I don't think anyone has ever claimed there were massacres in Danzig. Everything else is true. The Poles firing on fleeing Germans, burning down farms, refugees pouring into Germany, sporadic murder and acts of terror against the German minority and of course the massacres that occurred after the war began. But I've never once heard of Danzig being the site for a massacre. Danzig was immediately annexed into Germany upon the wars beginning, the German army wouldn't allow such an event to occur I would think.

It's not all Goebbels propaganda. He did conflate the numbers to inspire anger within the German population but it has its basis in truth. Also the Germans didn't annex half of Poland. In fact Hitler was prepared to restore Western Poland and pay for all damages done with the exception of former German lands pre-WWI which would have been reincorporated in to Germany. Stalin however 'gently' told Hitler that restoring Western Poland would be 'against the spirit of the M-R Pact' and Hitler couldn't afford a two front war at that moment. The Allies however rejected his offering like they rejected all the other peace deals. As it stood, Poland was reorganized with Germany annexing its former land (And some new land - the Wartheland, Suwalki and the rest of Silesia) and organized the rest of Poland as the Generalgovournement.

Poland had been given multiple chances to come to the dealing table, they purposefully rejected all offers solely because they underestimated the strength of Germany and because they had big allies backing them up. The Polish government after escaping to Romania would admit that they should have gone with Hitler's deal. It was very reasonable and fair for both parties. Hitler was making a deal with the Western allies who apart from making the mistake of guaranteeing an ally they knew they couldn't defend, didn't need to continue a pointless war. Again his offers cost France and England nothing. It was they who prolonged a pointless and destructive war and would continue to do so. They could have ended it literally any moment they wanted to.
