People promoting moral relativism aren't trying to turn solid moral foundations into gelatin because they truly believe morality is gelatinous; people try to turn moral solidity into gelatin so they can re-sculpt its foundations into whatever is advantageous for them. Once they've poured the gelatin into the mold, their goal is to see it solidify as quickly and firmly as possible. That's when the inquisitions start.
