I'm not a theology major but methinks that the Christianity peddled by Europeans is a lot different than the Christianity that existed 2000 years ago in the ME. It makes sense that what we call Christianity as practiced by Europeans is more or less an amalgamation of Germanic pagan customs and Ancient Greek philosophy with a sprinkle of Near East enlightenment. It's not like it ALL came from the desert.
