Please drop Leftist ideas here that are actually true. True in a testable, intellectually honest sense.
The idea doesn't need to be some ground-breaking red pill. It could be something that is well-known; modern or ancient. It could be public policy, effective or proposed, which produces or is very like to produce a net benefit.
Classical Liberalism no longer falls under Leftist ideology if it ever did, so its ideas don't qualify. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n4eufqOVlYI

I'm talking about democrats, socialists, communists, liberals, social justice warriors, etc..

I'll try to start it out...

Abortion
It helps control the population of inferior ethnic groups which would destroy society with unfettered growth.

a lot of left things are good in the right environment.
gay rights are a great example; in a society that encourages them to marry it is a wonderful anachronism that prevents poz and hook up culture.

without good marriage laws though its meaningless.

socialism is great
but when you give socialist welfare for children you essentially ensure the propegation of the poor and increased wellfare spending

women having rights and the vote and jobs is also good. as long as those jobs can be done with most of the time spent in the home.

Actually, I will just say the left isn't necessarily wrong about most of their social observations. It's just that they are incapable of having a further nuanced view and apply them to a system of ethics. For example, I would agree that "toxic masculinity" in the sense that you repress yourself from having an sort of childish vice and feel an appropriate response to a women denying your advancements on her is rape/ assault is bad, but the left does not want to acknowledge that there is a problem with brown migrants committing a disproportionate amount of rape/ sexual assault for these thing.

Top down cultural control is superior to bottom up cultural change. Public works is an ok way of stimulating the economy, funding innovation/science is pretty much always good. Subsidies can be good.

Education spending is good if it isn't wasted in things like no child left behind.

That's about it.

Austrian economics plus subsidization of emerging tech/industries/innovation with some public work spending and education spending would probably be the most optimal economic environment.

>not being wary of scientific progress (or vice versa) is hipocrisy.
This is a good way to put it. When somebody says the environment ought to be protected a typical conservative response is 'I don't give a fuck I like to drive a truck!'

There is a lot more to it outside of combustible fuel usage. Humans are so numerous and technologically powerful that we can OBVIOUSLY affect the environment. China is a clear example. Environmental CONSERVation should be a conservative value. And yes, it would be wise to roll 3rd world immigration/population control in with it. These people produce kids like mad and if/when they fully industrialize it's going to be disastrous for the planet if Western countries haven't developed nanomachine synthesizers or something.

Oh, and abortion. Though it has nothing to do with the "her body her choice" bullshit. That's irrelevant to the argument since those who oppose abortion believe the child to be "living" before those who support abortion do. If the clump of cells qualified as a living baby, they'd have no right to abort it just by the merit of the baby being "in her body". Abortion is acceptable just because a baby isn't a baby at the point conservatives believe it is. It's not a women's rights issue. To claim it is is the height of intellectual dishonesty and manipulation.

Actually I created the thread because I expect there to be embarrassingly few things to list. I want to be able to bring this point up with Leftists and count the things on one hand and say "there, that's all you have."

Their ideology relies on distorted perceptions and false base claims. The things that should be getting discussed in this thread should be the things that aren't that. So I don't know what you're on about. Sun Tzu would be disappointed if you weren't interested in knowing your enemy. We know ourselves here... relatively. /pol/ is pretty well-aligned but it's not an echo chamber. If /pol/ agrees on one thing it's that Leftism is the enemy.

The current state of gay affaris is affected by two things; the lack of rights being around long enough to change culture
the good bits of western culture are being lumped in with the bad bits because many conservatively dressed and behaved people are associated with the ones who want to burn us at the stake.

Well, I would say one thing they are correct about but apparently don't realize it's something that they are correct about b/c they don't seem to talk about it and it's something that conservatives also rarely talk about is: the government's ability to cut a check and to move money around. For example, safety net social programs are much more efficient, do more for less money, and are better at filling the needs of those they are trying to serve when they are private and religious based (ie: not what liberals typically want) BUT they are not so good at "passing the hat around" in regards to getting their funding when compared to using the power of government funding. Moving funds isn't just limited to safety nets tho. And is basically the ideas behind Hamilton's Federalism vision of using government's money power to make a country powerful within (stable) so that it can be powerful on the outside among other nations geopolitically.

with human industrial innovation, the amount of carbon in the atmosphere has artificially inflated. since carbon is absorbed and diffused in the atmosphere at prolonged rate (it accumulates, and the effects are only noticeable across long stretches of time) it is only certain that an enormous amount of carbon is in our atmosphere due to our industrial revolutions. the amount is so large that the anticipated change is hard to predict, and that is where the danger lines, in our inability to properly and adequately react to possible disruptive changes. mixed in with the eastern industrial revolutions and we are essentially forging an ecological future at which we have no means to adequately adjust to hard-to-detect changes.

>Their ideology relies on distorted perceptions and false base claims
The same can be said about the right. Most Democrats (like most republicans) are moderate, yet all I see on /pol/ is parroting the most retarded sentiments coming from the left.
Here are some things the left is "more" right on:
>Economics
in a time of rising income inequality and deficit spending, increasing taxes on the most successful people is the solution
>Military spending
Our military is over-inflated for the type of wars we will be fighting in the future. I was in the Navy. We waste tons of fucking money for no reason. The rest of the world (allies) needs to contribute more.
>Socialized healthcare
Having lived in Japan, Australia, Hong Kong, we have an objectively worse healthcare system and it costs us twice as much. We need a government funded base healthcare plan with premium policies for the rich like Australia has
>Minimum wage
Raising the minimum wage isn't always a good idea, but in a time of extremely high corporate profits, it's the only way to get money into the economy. See the walk Mart welfare loop to see how fucked it is now.
>Global warming
I would say this is a leftist ideology but outside of America, this isn't a politicized issue. Everyone on both sides agrees.
>>
>>134335018
The true redpill is that there isn't a simple as socialism = bad, capitalism = good. It's all connected to culture, demographics and a bunch of other things. Capitalism has a tendency to destroy itself, with the winners using their economic might to destroy competition. Like it or not, people also see it as immoral in places like healthcare, even if it might objectivly be better. Socialism can for this reason have a place in a society that is homogenous and has a culture of high trust and strong work morals. A sacrifice of efficiency in order to keep people together and make the society seem more morally just to its citizens.

As soon as we bring multiculturalism and shitskins into the equation, capitalism is the only thing that works. Otherwise they'll parasite on the system on the backs of the whites until it collapses.

the US lacks the cultural cohesion because one particular demographic with admittedly more social and material capital, whose disproportionate accumulation can easily be identified through a survey of american socio-political economic development through time goes either unacknowledged entirely, or is wrongly assumed to be an accusation leveled at the individual

you literally can't have cultural cohesion if the foundations of the culture were based on division. and while it's no one's fault who is alive today that the past developed as so, it is certainly ppl's fault today, of all kinds, for not recognizing this and working to reconcile it. then steps towards social cohesion, and over -throwing an establishment that thrives on antagonisms can become possible.

>economics
No, because if you raise taxes on the richest, they flee - this is proven time and again. Richard Branson literally bought himself an island to live on 6 months of the year just to avoid taxes. Bermuda is populated by wealthy tax avoiders. It's mostly wealth that could be better used domestically too.

Consumption taxes are therefore better, like GST (in Canada - dunno what yank's have, if any). basically any goods and services are subject to it, and someone making $50,000 per year spends the same tax as a rich person buying a $50,000 car outright.

>military
Every gov't department is guilty of poor spending habits - I worked for our tax collectors for a while. They pay people to take staples out of used manilla envelopes. That's not an exageration, this actually happens and I witnessed it. In Toronto, a guy just built a staircase at a public park for $550 and the city quoted $65,000+

>healthcare
America, I feel you here, and I have no solution. You're too free market to have a single payer system.

>minimum wage
Raising minimum wage is one of the shittiest, most retarded ideas ever, and it just keeps driving inflation and lowering the standard of living for the rest of the middle-lower class. Also, school kids don't need $15/hour

>global warming
Actually climate change, shouldn't even be an issue. I don't see how getting rid of smog is bad if it can be. Why is shifting to renewables bad? Only if it's done too fast and forceably. Otherwise, I don't see the harm in reducing pollution and can't understand why that's an issue for some.
>>
>>134343362

It's pretty reductive to call the US a nation founded by white immigrants. It's somewhat true, but those white immigrants were importing black slaves and encroaching on Native territories. The Spanish had much of the West Coast, Gulf Coast, and West. France also had chunks of the North East down the Mississippi River to Louisiana.

The 13 colonies that became the first states of the USA were English colonies, but looking at where the borders are drawn there were other people living there, who were folded into America.

Identitarian movements in the USA don't really make sense, since so many ethnic groups are part of what makes up America. That being said, it is not America's place to push multiculturalism on other countries.

I think at the heart of the left/right meme is a difference between cosmopolitanism and individualism.

Leftists attempt to create a society that follows the golden rule, knowing that they themselves will probably break said rule and are aware that all other humans are fallible as well; hence the authoritarian leanings towards "prevention".

Rightists attempt to practice the golden rule as individuals and recognize some people will not, but use "punishment" as a deterrent.

How was that determined exactly? Taking a census of every single person who works with climate's opinion would be a costly and time consuming undertaking. What questions were they asked, exactly? Were the responses anonymous or could people have withheld their opinions for fear of losing their careers?

It's just not sufficient evidence. I'd much rather get an anonymous and random sampling of all climate scientists opinion on the matter.

It does drive inflation (which is too low right now) but the standard of living thing is just not true. Because most jobs are already not minimum wage, inflation will not increase in parity with wage growth from a minimum wage increase, i.e. the standard of living will not be lowered. Inflation is not too low. Canadians all have econ in high school, I minored in university, myself.

I said it lowers the standard of living for the middle-lower class. When middle wage raises, it will cause inflation mostly steeply in industries and businesses that rely on minimum wage labour, like fast food chains. Those in the middle-lower class who make only incrementally more than a raised minimum wage now suffer the extra cost of inflation on those products. This means they can buy fewer of them, demonstrating a lower purchasing power parity and therefore a lower standard of living.

I'm not disagreeing with anything else you said. However, you're sensationalizing the negative affects. Even people who earn wages barely above minimum wage will see wage growth, albeit slower. So there is a reduction in purchasing power for sure. As in all economics, this policy has some positive and negative consequences. However, in the US, many minimum wage earners simply do not earn enough to live on. When you combine that with record corporate profits, minimum wage increase is a good idea

Right, the US has different issues like companies being subsidized by food stamps - I was thinking more in general terms.

Another part of the issue is that the labour supply of unskilled labour is way too high and that drives wages down too. If they could find a way to let the poor people die quickly, en masse, that would really help a lot of them (sarcasm.... economics is ruthless though)

I don't know what the inflation rate is there, but up here it's was too high for years and only just recently did our central bank raise interest rates, first time in almost a decade.

I also think that, given the large labour supply, wages for those just above minimum wage can expect to remain static. I know too many people in fields with no wage mobility - only the ones with programming/hard science backgrounds are finding mobility.

Further, I agree that corporate profits can be overwhelmingly unbalanced, but I don't have any solutions that I'm content with for just means of redistribution.

people of color was actually a classist term popularized by black elites in chicago who wanted to have a term that differentiated them from working and lower class black people when interacting with white people of similar social standing. it has recently be appropriated by non-white leftists as useful term to refer to anyone generally non-white

and i understand the want to protect assets. this is much the same logic of reparations, or even more simply black liberation -- much of black ppl in the past, especially during the times of slavery and shortly after, have been explicitly blocked from attaining and protecting their own assets. arguments of inheritance rights have no standing if the person advocating for them does not believe and advocate for reparations as well.

the black/brown ppl who actually want "gibs" are those who have a direct heritage to US slaves, and who quite literally have had a history of their assets and fruit of their productive labors denied them. this is a useful wedge to use on either side for establishment Dem/GOP. as a first generation black person of immigrants, i do not feel entitled to reparations. but i will advocate on behalf of my black and brown friends who it is owed to.

Another difficulty that I can't find a contentable solution for is the size of the company - there ought to be some difference drawn for large companies with record profits that can absorb wage increases but are just greedy, and small "mom and pop" businesses that can't. Even outside minimum wage raises, this is an issue, like for regulation changes that require mass investment to appease (eg ontario's abbatoir changes following the listeriosis crisis).

I think in the US, the cutoff is 500 employees to be considered a large company - but that doesn't mean anything about profit and there is certainly a difference between companies with 500, 1000, 5000, 10000+ employees and the revenues/profits they generate.

I'm not content with any solutions, becasue as soon as any penalties come to one bracket, companies will work to restructure to avoid paying it. ,

Most of you ITT are looking at narrow, specific issues that happen to be adopted by the left right now. I don't see a lot of talk getting at what the fundamental of leftism is. What links it all together. Because really, environmentalism and gay marriage (for examples) and all that can be arrived at from rightist or leftist perspectives, affecting what you really intend to achieve with them. We need a unified theory, a theme, that really defines what leftism is in its psychological drives, underlying all the specific issues that come and go. And I think I found it. I figured out what it is. It really crystallized for me during all this suicidal migrant-love, but I think it drives any kind of leftism in any society, in any time and place because any flavor of leftism is relative to the society it grew up in. There is no permanent, fixed, leftist truth; leftist dogma is relative to its cultural environment. So what is the unifying theme?
>here it comes~~~~~~~~~~
It is a rejection, a destruction, of anything associated with the self-identity. This applies both to individual self-identities and social/collective group self-identities.

Think about every kind of leftist movement ever. They've always been the "anti" faction, the one that seeks to degrade and destroy what is within, or seeks to help and save what is without. It's a kind of self-destructiveness, only at a social scale.

sorry, it's not an absolute scale. What is Left today might not have been Left yesterday, the same as what is Right today was not Right yesterday. There are philosophical absolutes, but in terms of policies or themes that drive them today, there is no such underlying value.

Eg. Government supported healthcare was left in the US a decade ago. Currently, the Right is trying to do it better, and it's not a Right position as well.

it's not the end all, be all

but you're gonna sounds quite silly if you don't take into account ppl's material situation in their social interactions.

people need food and shelter. these things are created through the private ownership of productive means. therefore, although commodities aren't the end all be all, they certainly are important as the things ppl need happen to be commodities, and the only way to attain them is through labor or already having the necessary capital to acquire them

unless you were suggesting something else totally unrelated?

Leftism is only "correct" about abortion to the extent the harm to inferior ethnic groups is bigger than the harm to superior ethnic groups.

In a society where a superior ethnic group is the only one, or almost the only one, abortion would be unmitigated harm.

Leftists don't accept that, they want to push abortion on all societies, including white ones, including white neighborhoods. They are not "correct" in this, they are at best partially useful for a limited time in some particular circumstances. Even their ideological reasons for abortion are wrong, even if the outcome in a society with significant number of shitskins happens to be a net positive.

Scientists say there's more than two genders and race doesn't exist
Do you believe that too?
>>
>>134351159
There has actually been a monumental, academics-wide statistical fraud going on in all of the western world for the past half century.

Time for an important redpill.

Basically, when measuring outcomes for shitskins/migrants, they "correct for" one or more of a set of factory: INCOME, EDUCATION LEVEL, and/or EMPLOYMENT STATUS.

For example: How criminal are second-generation aslum seekers? When we CORRECT FOR income/education/jobs, they are not so criminal after all.

What "correcting for" means in this instance is complex, but basically comparing them with the native population that has these particular markers (compare unemployed shitskins with unemployed whites, etc). Or, find the negative effect for a white person of being poor and jobless, and subtract this effect from the immigrant.

This is all well and god IF AND ONLY IF THE NEGATIVE STATUS BEING CORRECTED FOR IS ONE THEY ARE UNABLE TO INFLUENCE THEMSELVES.

But this is usually not the case. Usually there would be a common factor behind e.g. both unemployment and crime, or behind low education and crime, or behind low income and crime. E.g. simply low IQ, being inbred or aggressiveness in the genes.

In this case, "correcting for" the former erases the negative effect on the latter.

I will present a practical example.

cont.

Let's say you're measuring life expectancy of smokers vs nonsmokers. However, all the smokers happened to also be exposed to life-shortening radiation, taking exactly 5 years off their life.

In that case we can validly "correct for" the life-shortening radiation, by adding 5 years to their age at death. This creates comparable groups, and lets you compare the expected age of death for smokers vs nonsmokers, corrected for radiation exposure.

Let's instead say the native population has a wide spectrum of people, from the top quality ones who have good incomes, good jobs and good educations, to a few bottom-quality ones. The bottom-quality ones have no jobs, poor education and commit much crime.

Then, a bunch of ape-like Somalis immigrate. Because they are all ape-like, they cannot get jobs or make very little money, cannot fulfil education, and are very criminal.

When you "correct for" their low education and income, you are basically comparing them to the bottom of the native population. What will be the result? THEY ARE NO MORE CRIMINAL THAN THE NATIVE POPULATION!

So you will have a massive number of shitskin immigrants in your country who are incapable of functioning - but because you also had a few natives like this, we can "correct for" the full range of self-caused socioeconomic factor, and reach the result that the immigrants are no different whatsoever from the natives.

This is quite complex and hard to grasp. But it's an academic fraud that exists in the entire Western world for decades.

Literally nothing. Even their conclusions that might be "right" were found by faulty rational given to them by imploding ideologies. Leftism in the current year is an umbrella term for dead ideologies that haven't had an original thought in many decades. The far fringes of the right wing are where actual original political theory is being developed. The right is on the verge of a renaissance of ideas that is going to crush leftism once and for all and catipult society to the next level. Anything good the left ever thought of will be retooled, reformed and innovated by the right. The left is dead and useless. Its best for everyone, including them, if they are treated that way so that we can all move on

Let me just find a few examples of this in practice:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Immigration_and_crime
> By controlling for socioeconomic and demographic factors, the gap between immigrants and natives is reduced but not fully.

"The index is standardized by both age and socioeconomic status. "

"Those with immigrant background are overrepresented in Swedish crime statistics, but research shows that socioeconomic factors, such as unemployment, poverty, exclusion language, and other skills explain most of difference in crime rates between immigrants and natives"

"By taking account of socioeconomic factors (gender, age, education and income), the crime rate gap between immigrants and natives decreases.[118]"

"A 2013 study done by Stockholm University showed that the 2005 study's difference was due to the socioeconomic differences (e.g. family income, growing up in a poor neighborhood) between people born in Sweden and those born abroad"

"Both the 1996 and 2005 reports have been criticized for using insufficient controls for socioeconomic factors."

"The authors find that "legal status... explains one-half to two-thirds of the observed differences in crime rates between legal and illegal immigrants""

"A 2009 study found "that the share of immigrants in the population has no significant impact on crime rates once immigrants’ economic circumstances are controlled for"

The notion that you must "CORRECT FOR" something the immigrant themselves causes, (income, education, legal status) is everywhere in academia.

>capitalism can result in abuses of power

I would probably argue that government enables this to happen. But I like the points that >>134342792 made and I think capitalism is our best option in the West. This post goes towards supporting the 2nd point.

So these are only five things, and they all have caveats or require clarification. I wouldn't call them pure truths. Minimum wage and other labor laws are good for society up to a certain point.

>atheism
I missed this one but immediately remembered it. It's something which is technically correct (or very much seems to be), but it's not wielded correctly. I think Jordan Peterson has made a great case for why traditional Christian/Western values are important, and how atheism, even if it's true, doesn't do anything to replace those extremely important structures which are ancient (pre-Christian). I used to be quite an edge fedora tipper and now I'm pretty relaxed about it. I value the existence of Christians and think they're on average much better for society than Leftist atheists. I'm convinced that atheism is correct about the metaphysics, but needs to provide something satisfying in the way of culture before I consider it a wholly beneficial force.

That said, I don't think Leftism even deserves to claim atheism. I think it's just a matter that a majority of proclaimed atheists are also Leftists. This is true because atheism kind of "cleans out the house" of moral and beneficial structures and allows the Leftist ideologues to put their own in place. So I wouldn't actually put it on the list.
