Oh boo hoo, so terrible that your kids don't want your Franklin Mint Marilyn Monroe commemorative doll or the leather recliner you got on sale at Boscov's 25 years ago.
>>

The main reason for me is my parents started collecting shit 30 years ago and never clean their house. It's a fucking shithole, god I hate boomers.

Everyone does it, it's not a boomer thing. My grandmother had so much crap in her house and she was born in the 1920s.
>>
>>134321596
We can't afford a home large enough for their shit! I am a millennial and bought a 1600sqft house. My mom saw this as an opportunity to buy herself new furniture and hand her old furniture down to me. I didn't take any it. She was so shocked I didn't want to put her gigantic mcmansion furniture in my home. I CANT FIT A 4 CUSHION SECTIONAL IN MY FUCKING HOME YOUR GENERATION RAPED THE NATIONS COFFERS AND WAGES HAVENT RISEN IN 30 YEARS.

I have to put tiny Ikea shit in my place or you have no room and are climbing over furniture. They should be glad I have a good job and don't live with them.

all of this shit just makes it more of a pain to manage a home or pack up and move
the only burden I would actually want is a home gym set with a power cage and bench

Goddamn you're a fucking cuck. Take your parents furniture. I'd love to have a four cushion sectional in my house. Bitches love that shit too. Think a bitch is impressed by your cuck ikea shit?

And if you don't have room with 1600 SQ FT, you're a fat faggot.

My fucking mother-in-law saved my wife's childhood bedroom set and wants us to take it. It's like some off-pearl nonsense that weighs literally 4 tons. What the fuck am I supposed to do with that? what the fuck? im technically a milennial, and boomers keep giving me shit. It's like a gold mine. I have spend 0$ on furniture and im 27.

Just bought a house, boomers are giving me;

a 2000$ treadmill
Queen Bed
2 Couches
4 Bar stools
Tons of free flowers to plant

And I haven't even been asking for shit. Would have gotten a 3500$ couch, but it was too difficult for them to move into their home to store for me, so they took it to goodwill for a tax write off.
>>
>>134323968
You have a misunderstanding of comparative advantage economics. If that shit is work $10-15 but I have to put in the time to sell it and my wage is $16/hr or more, I'm better off investing my time elsewhere which makes that junk selling proposition worthless to me.

>boomer hate
Just remember that the very first thing the (((socialist))) do is to turn the child against their parents in regards to matters of the state.
Everyone is deserving of criticism, even those involved in a multi-generational social experiment.
You should find better places to focus your hate than your parents. All you will end up doing is allowing their lives to take over your own.
If it is really that bad, move on. You might even come to find that they will follow you, even if reluctantly. Either way, there are better focuses of your energy than hating on family.

millennial here, just bought my first house with my dad's help, half a million dollar house, dad lent me the money for the down payment on a 1.5 percent interest loan, will have payed him back simply by renting the rooms out to other people in 7 years and by the end of 10 years my net worth will be 145 thousand based on the median projection. btw the house is income cash flow positive so I make about 15 grand/year in just cash profit, not to mention the equity gains

sucks to have parent's who are poor, some boomers actually worked hard and saved their money so they could help their kids

before you say "oh Ur parents are rich or old money" my dad was born in Poland, grandfather had nothing when he came here but actually worked hard and was a MAN. all of his kids are multi millionaires.

Now this is my kind of post.

Unfortunately most of the people on this board are suburban kids who have never even seen a chicken in real life. How many of them have been to their local farmers' market? How many of them even *have* a local farmers' market?

On the subject the OP posted, my mother owns TONS of junk. Pretty much none of it is worth anything, or useful. There are a couple of pieces of furniture worth holding onto, but that's it. I dread the day I have to clean out her apartment when she passes.

Junk can be valuable. I run a resell business and you'd be surprised how much money stuff can bring. I clean out several estates yearly (basically your example - mom/dad dies, i don't want to clean this shit out, here you do it for me). Depending on what they have, I'll charge a fee and get to keep everything the client doesn't want, or I'll buy everything sight unseen, etc.

anything that's junk, I give to a buddy of mine that runs a self-storage building. he puts it in a unit, then when he does delinquent auctions each month, that "unit" is auctioned off. Then we split the money 50/50. He always has a few empty units and I bring the stuff to the building, so it's literally free money for both of us. Buyers have to pay a deposit they get back once they clear out the whole building, but half the time they leave shit they don't want, so buddy gets to pocket their deposit (usually $50) and that crap gets left in there for the next month's auction

When it gets time to put them in a home, I'll pay them back exactly what they paid for me. A $1,000 car, 3 years of an extra cell line when I was a teen, and $700 for a garage door I crashed into on a dirtbike when I was 13.

My brother can pay them back for several trips to rehab, court fees for several felonies and prison stints, rent for the house they got him, the trucks he got for some union job he quickly failed at and defaulted on, all this child support payments, etc etc etc

I don't think he meant the "dying world" in the most literal sense, but rather the forces of enthropy. Ol' Terence was wrong about some things like Feminism, but he was in the right on most other things. In other talk i listened to him he predicted a rise of radical Islamism in Southern Russia and CIS countries, i was shocked at how right he was. You may not agree with him on everything, but he was a pretty far out thinking dude.

he has vintage tools from when he worked throughout his life but all of it is obsolete and they're heavy as fuck an not ergonomic
he doesnt want to trash them and he cant sell them because they are stamped with the company (hot)
So many times have I had to clean out the shed load the trailer and unload at the city dump.

is your brother younger?

same situation I was in basically as the oldest sibling. Parents didn't do shit to help me, demanded I pay rent as soon as I graduated highschool, dad forced me to get a manual labor job so I could pay them $600/month (food+rent+utilities)

No college, no trade, 30 years old with a job history of manual labor low-skilled employment. Frequent bouts of depression, yet someone stay relatively clean (don't use drugs, don't smoke, don't drink often, don't gamble, etc.) and try to hold my life and house together and make ends meet.

My younger brother on the other hand is 25, still lives with parents, hasn't had a job in 6 years, they pay his cellphone, food, car, gas, smokes, don't charge him rent. He has been in trouble with the law, been in and out of rehab, steals from my parents (took their laptop, stole their credit cards, stole and crashed their car)

The world's fucked, that's all I can say. There's no inherent justice, it's completely random. Good guys often lose, bad guys often win, simple as that.
>>
>>134321596
So much of the stuff they buy is inherently worthless.

It's as if they want to spend every dime before they die. Remember when Boomers were getting started their parents could typically afford to pay their tuition and would usually pay for a down payment on a house when their kids got married.

I get not wanting old furniture and knick-knacks, and even not wanting drawings you did in first grade, but getting rid of photo albums and important documents like birth certificates and diplomas or military decorations is basically severing one's connection to their ancestors, to their past. Early GenX here, parents from born in the early '30s (I was adopted when they were in their mid 30s). I'm a bit of a packrat and the amount of their old crap lying around that I've found up in the (giant) attic surprised even me. And so much of it was in half-filled containers, decaying cardboard boxes, etc., not just taking up space, but taking it up inefficiently, too. I had to move back recently because she's starting to get senile and it was too far to drive from the next city over.

The worst part was that my mom moved away for a few years after my dad died, (she rented out the house during that time) then came back, and all of that crap got moved away and back, and more crap furniture and junk came back with it.

And then there's the dumb furniture and stuff my mom got over the years, and by dumb I mean something really annoying about it. Like the sofas with a popup footrest that you have to slam down hard before it locks back in place. That kind of dumb. Once she got mesmerized by Teh Shiny of something, she wanted it right away.

Even worse is how her generation is about food, they keep all but throwing food at you to be social, and I got fat from that. It's hard to lose weight when people keep bring starchy sugary crap to you. And then there's the packrat side, apparently she thought of freezing food as some kind of fucking magic, the amount of old crap in that freezer was absurd. Also she got started on Omaha Steaks and got a dedicated freezer (on top of two fridges!) and would just throw stuff in there and rarely get it out to eat it.

Holy crap, that. So much "collectible" crap was made and advertised with color inserts in to every Sunday newspaper for decades.

Fact: if it was made to be a "collectible", IT ISN'T

The only reason old comic books are collectible is because THEY KEPT GETTING WORN OUT AND THROWN AWAY, and even then it's mostly the few that normies care about, like Superman and Batman and Spider-man. They weren't meant to be kept around, that's why they were rare! I remember in the '90s the glut of crappy fanboy comic books, boarded and bagged, infesting comic book stores of that era. Crap art, crap stories, but IT PRINTS MONEY. It didn't help that the comic book companies at that time got greedy and stopped accepting returns for unsold copies. Because, you know, in 20 years they'll be worth a lot of money! People tracked the """value""" of those things like stocks, there were magazines that every month printed some artificial value for all that pulp.

The only comic books from that era I ever made an attempt to get were the original Mike Saenz run of Shatter, because he did them in fucking MacPaint with watercolor over it, and it was awesome what he could do with those pixels.

One of the things in there was from a kit of crap you could put on a drill, and some of the parts would make a drill press. Gotta try that out someday. It might be missing some of the little screws and shit (ziploc bags are great for keeping track of little parts, shame they didn't have 'em in the '60s). >90s collector Barbies
Around 15 years ago, the relative of a friend of my mom died leaving behind a shitload of Barbie crap. The friend's family had some guy collector guy check out the collection to see what it was worth. Collector guy bought it all right up. I hope he sold it, it's probably losing value by now. When kids these days grow up, they won't even care about the crappy 99 cent cell phone games they played with as a child.

Yeah, but Depression-era folks hoarded shit for very different reasons: because they grew up with such terrible privation, and you never know when you're gonna truly need something. My parents were born in the 20s (they had me way late, I'm literal oldfag but not antediluvianfag) and they never threw away a thing, in part because they had so little. Talk about no inheritance--luckily my Dad's parents were pretty well-to-do or my childhood would've been even poorer than it was. My Grandma eventually stepped in and helped us get a home of our own, bless her forever. My Dad was too shellshocked from WWII to function very well.

Anyway--boomers are a different grade of hoarder. They annoy the shit out of me. When GenXers or millennials collect, I find it's more out of nostalgia for better days. Kind of poignant really, as opposed to just greedy and materialistic.

>Giving them rough, poor, undeserving childhoods, despite middle class backgrounds
????????????????????????????????

What the fuck, why are american parents hating their own living genetic kids?
In Europe, parents help their children all their life, even if they're 80 and the kid is 60, we're family, we don't do it because we might need each other later.

>Wait till someone is willing to pay 30k for a table.
>Of course, not any table.
Well that's the whole problem, isn't it.

Back in the late '90s, I went to a thrift store when I had my mom along, and she saw this fucking enormous cabinet (and once Teh Shiny instinct set in she had to have it of course) by American of Martinsville, some '70s pesudo-Asian style with a heavy granite countertop, and matching smaller cabinet. That ended up being my millstone for years until I had to move last year. When I found out from a furniture auction guy that it wasn't anything special, I was so happy that I could finally set it free and unload it on Salvation Army.

Most baby boomer women grew up in a time of very little hardship, personally or as a society. This leads to just insane amounts of consumerism. Boomers started that. The only thing they hate more than their parents are their kids. Hopefully Gen X didn't pick up on that trait but idk. Chopping a boys dick off and putting him in a dress because hr touched a doll at age 5 seems like they're trying to one-up the boomers.

gunna add a (you) to this one as well, boomer parents/aunt and even my grandmother(born in 30's) all hoard a bunch of useless shit. It's not even rare or antique because I'm actually a big fan of those type of things. I've inherited a 103 year old pocket pistol and .22pump that I will be keeping and a couple of old 80's macs that i'll keep around as well but they have so much plain crap they hoard it's insane. Hundreds of closet hangars, beat down walmart/ikea furniture that's like 30 years old, fucking yarn/thread everywhere. CLOTHES, fucking clothes by the truckload.

I'll keep the cool familial stuff and antique things like guns, old hardware, pocket purses/watches, and the mirror from the civil war my grandma got in arkansas but so much of the shit they hoard is going str8 to the junk when they die.

My father and uncle own and operate what is basically a thrift store that also clears out the homes of people who abandon their belongings when they move, or who just die without anyone claiming their stuff.

Nearly everything in my parents' house is second-hand, but it's all very high quality stuff.

There's good money in it nowadays with all the boomers dying. You won't believe the stuff people just leave behind or do not claim, even the state doesn't repo half of the good stuff if the person was in debt, only the obvious things like cars and jewelry. He makes a killing at auctions too.
