Global warming - take 2

Yes, global warming is real and mankind is to blame.

Yes, global warming has detrimental effects, most notably in countries close to the equator (most severely within areas up to 25 degrees latitude from the equator).

Yes, global warming affects coastal areas with 3-4cm sea level rises per decade (with the growth rising to up to 10cm per decade until 2050 depending on the situation).

Yes, going for nuclear power plants and e-cars and an e-car infrastructure as well as biofuels, is a viable option and yes, China and India are trying the same.

Yes, getting rid of the Western oil dependence will fuck over Saudi Arabia, Iran, Iraq, Libya, Qatar, the UAE and the other oil rich fuck countries.

And yes, therefore, it makes sense to stop this non-sense about some global conspiracy that wants people to believe global warming is real, even though it is not. It is real, Americans, you are the only ones who still doubt it.

from the paper:
>A combination of data from all five time slices (Fig. 3A) reveals that on these longer timescales, there is a clearly sigmoidal relationship between sea level and climate forcing by CO2. Moreover, there is a striking similarity between data from different time periods and those generated by different techniques (e.g., Fig. 3A). This overall agreement implies that this relationship is robust and reflects the fundamental behavior of the Cenozoic climate system, despite some significant changes in boundary conditions (e.g., closing of the Panama Gateway since the Pliocene, closure of Tethys since the Miocene).

firstly: I don't think you could win a flower pot by pointing out that it was warmer than today in the past. Paleoclimatologists have known this for decades now. And not only do they know that temperatures were higher in the past, they can also look at what caused them to be higher. And greenhouse gases (mainly CO2) has played an absolutely crucial role in these warm periods.

b) The climate doesn't just change randomly, it has to be driven. And for it to be driven, there has to be a forcing that's applied.

c) The Medieval warm period (or "Medieval Climate Anomaly", as climatologists call it) was very likely an event constrained to several regions on the globe, not a synchronous global event.
It doesn't show up in global reconstructions like this one

So what if global warming is real? So what if it's being driven by human industry? Your solutions are pipe dreams, not so much because they wouldn't address the problem but, because they threaten too many people's interests.
>yes, yes, anon, those ebil corporate interests
No, retard. *Your* interests. *My* interests. The welfare of ordinary Joe's the world over. Corporations exploit those interests. They didn't invent them...
>wuuuuut!? What greater interest is there than the future of the planet and human existence itself, retard?
Making sure your kids eat tomorrow. Scraping enough loose change together for a butane canister so you can cook that food.
Paying your energy bills. Keeping your car on the road so you can drive for an hour to work.

Liberal solutions to these problems isn't to offer cheaper sustainable alternatives - it's to drive up the cost of non-sustainable existing supplies, by imposing artificial tariffs and regulation. Once again, the 3rd way liberals are happy to hurt those they purport to represent - the poor - in the name of "progress". The liberals can afford to pay regardless.
>so wut do, faggot?
Adapt. Climate change is going to happen. New infrastructure will be needed to mitigate the environmental impact. New infrastructure means new markets.
This is realistic. It's in everyone's interest, including that of our ebil corporate overlords.

So what you are saying is that the past "settled science" suddenly turned out to be wrong but this time its honestly really 100% settled?
Just like the one time they preached that we all will freeze to death or that the polar caps at the latest will be gone by 2013? But again this time its 100% settled even if the same was said a week ago about crap we now know was false...hmm

Yeah you see this argument of "lol yes yesterday and a week ago we were wrong...and we were wrong 3 decades ago too multible times.... but this time!!! hahah skeptics btfo!! the science is again settled!!" is kinda crap and i am not even skeptic in fact the only thing i didnt like about trump was his stupid stance on global warming.

these days science has been altered to suit powerful people and to question it is considered wrong despite the protestant or open minded train of thought is the basis of science and other analytical arts.

What drove the climate during the countless extinction events? If humans have such an impact on climate today, then previous climate events should have also been caused by megafauna screwing things up.

Image result for why the ice melted after the ice age
It began at the end of the last glacial period, about 10,000 years ago. The variation of sunlight reaching Earth is one cause of ice ages. Scientists are still working to understand what causes ice ages. One important factor is the amount of light Earth receives from the Sun .

I get the same feeling about you as with the other one:
Why would you proudly parade your own ignorance around as if that would constitute an actual argument?
If you would just ask "What drove the climate during the countless extinction events?" as a good-faith question out of interest, it would be fine.
But the question you're confident can't possibly have any answer besides "megafauna screwing things up" has been answered several decades ago and is completely uncontroversial.
Anyone who thinks about the matter for 4 seconds can see that there are other sources of CO2 than human emissions.
The main source in the past was Volcanic exhalation.
In the case of the end-Permian event, it was the eruption of the Siberian Traps.
In the case of the Triassic-Jurassic boundary event, it was the main phase of the CAMP.

If you just would spend 5 minutes googling this, we could be spared all of this.

Not imposing a carbon tax is essentially subsidising polluters though.

Typically, firms that produce harmful waste typically have to pay the cost of correctly handling this waste and paying out damages or better yet, develop less harmful methods of production.

In the energy industry however polluting firms don't have to bear the cost of their waste and companies that develop technology which vastly reduces waste aren't rewarded. In this case it is the government who is effectively paying for the waste management bill of polluters by accepting the future costs of climate change.

you got it backwards:
the terrestrial temperature record is favored by climatologists, while satellite data has to be taken with a grain of salt.
You also got it completely the wrong way on the point of biases:
terrestrial temperature stations are subject to only extremely minor influences, while the satellite record has to be corrected for not only foreign microwave emissions from clouds and other layers of the atmosphere, but also changing LECT due to orbital decay.

And you can see that in the datasets themselves:
The terrestrial temperature monitoring bodies give essentially identical trends, while the two satellite data sets give trends that diverge quite significantly

No, I am saying a satellite isn't a thermometer. It is a way to constantly measure certain parameters from space... regardless of cloud cover, atmospheric drag, sun and radiation interference. The raw data tells you jack shit. It tells you that the satellite flew over clean skies, then clouds, etc. at different times of a day with a timestamp... sometimes influenced by radiation, sometimes not, sometimes with the sun in its back, sometimes not. You need to look at every fucking single measurement on its own and then determine whether the timestamp and coordinates means you were actually where you wanted to be at the height above the surface you were supposed to be.

Typical of your types to forsake religion simply to take up science as your new god.

Earth has been warming and cooling long before humans were around. Ever hear about Milankovitch cycles?

Do you have any proof that rising atmospheric carbon is caused by humans? Chicken and egg scenario with warming and carbon release from oceans (our largest carbon reservoir). What makes you think humans could release enough emissions to affect that natural cycle?

Climatefags point out the earth is warming and cheer that we're responsible but never establish causation. Or scream about CO2 levels from humans but don't link rising ocean temperature to that natural cycle, blaming all carbon on human activity.

Yes it's real, no mankind is not to blame for it.
It's part of a natural cycle older than the first primates, and we're currently in the warming phase.

If you look at this in a geological timescale, you'll see even the Romans had it hotter than we are projected to have it.

You don't know how satellites work and shouldn't comment on them.
Satellites measure radiances in various wavelength bands, which must then be mathematically inverted to obtain indirect inferences of temperature.
You can release this raw data to the public which would allow 3rd parties to interpret the data.
They're much more useful at showing CO2 and other greenhouse gases accumulating in the atmosphere, and it's already been proven that CO2 does not increase temperature substantially, and are also caused by raising temperatures, not the other way around.

This is your threadly reminder that in the 70s all scientists had a consensus that the world was COOLING and we would be in deep freeze by 2000, with Scandinavia and Russia largely uninhabitable

Reminder that in the 90s Al Gore and other scientists were convinced and had a consensus that by 2010 Venice would be underwater, the Netherlands would no longer exist because of flooding, and that there would be no polar ice at all, let alone ice caps

And those same sources say that we were in a cooling event in the 1800s because of those same systems. Our ability to accurately measure temperature came about AFTER this cooling event.

In fact, our real temperature measurements start out at the tail end of said cooling event, and those data points are used to argue for climate change.

Yet those charts NEVER acknowledge the existence of a cooling event in the 1800s. Wanna know why? Because it undermines their entire theory. Those scientist failed to take into account the human error influence, and it shows in their work.

Go take a class on statistics and error propagation, and then maybe can join the conversation beyond copy pasting the same flawed arguments and graphs over and over. Your ignorance prevents you from accepting that perhaps what your professors taught you wasn't exactly correct.

Here's a tip: if the professor doesn't explain every caveat of a theory, they shouldn't be teaching it. This is one of the main reasons our education has taken such a dive in the last few decades. Because of people like them, and ignorant people like you. All your types are just looking for some way to elevate themselves above the rest of the population, by any means necessary.

>Is this another case of editing the results to fit the theory?
No, it is the other way around. There was a mystery until recently why the satellite data did not correlate with the surface and buoys measurements. All scientists said that the satellite data was likely influenced by too many factors, so was no good. Since satellite measurements started in the late 1970s, scientists have tried to make sense of the old data. The good news is that the new methods used on satellites for the last 15 years or so works well. The new study just makes the corrections to adjust the old faulty data which wasn't correct.

They could have likewise just discarded the temperature readings and just go with the newest ones. But scientists are persistent and don't want to do that.

The cost of energy is high right now so the use of energy can be controlled by economic means. However the cost of energy is going to go to zero and truly alternative energy has been suppressed since Tesla.

What to do?

Put the control not on the procurement of energy but the use of it. Call it carbon tax credits and decouple the control from the energy supply mechanism. Control the slave forever. He literally breathes out carbon.

your main point about the 1800 cooling event is moot for two big reasons
- climatologists DO look at the 1800s. Berkeley Earth for example has a time series with data points going back to 1750.
The PAGES2K consortium which do global temperature reconstruction of the last 2,000 years say that their results show "generally cold conditions between 1580 and 1880", but they are unable to detect a globally synchronous event that would define a "little ice age".
So if you would just actually take a look, you would see that climatologists have been talking about this for decades now (same with the Permian and Triassic) and their extensive documentation is freely available to anyone who cared to look it up

- the entire argument is pointless because that's not how the climate works anyway. Temperatures don't just go up because it was colder in the 1800s. As I pointed out at the very beginning: climate has to be actually driven by a forcing. It's completely irrelevant if the warming were to take place after a warm period or after a cold period - the radiative effects of CO2 remain the same regardless.

>the climate doesn't warm because it was cold earlier.
Ignoring the stupidity in this statement for now..

It is really simple. The global climate is dictated by solar cycles, and perhaps even some form of mega-solar cycle that we still have yet to discover. Cooling events are events that disrupt this natural osculation, and are often caused by volcanic debris. The mechanism for this is the solar radiation being reflected OUT of the global system by the said volcanic debris, thus making the global temperature drop. Debris from volcanos is overwhelmingly carbon-based substances, including CO2 and methane.

So it can be shown that an increase of carbon material in the atmosphere actually leads to cooling events, and not warming events.

This is only one of the many, many inconsistencies that is so common in "climate science". Stop being ignorant and actually research what you are preaching about.
