Its true. Depends on the Amish community but they usually have between 5-9 children. The average fertility rate last I heard was about 7.

Also, they do have a "running around" period called rumspringa and they can experience the modern world for a few years to decide if they wish to stay Amish or join the outside world. In a documentary I recently watched it stated 9 out of 10 Amish choose to stay Amish.
