He's a "Hero" solely because he crashed his plane and was subsequently captured and tortured.

Where ever he's gotten in life has been because of his father's connections or PR spin.

In general most veterans tend to be pretty good people. even if they just went into the military for financial reasons.

I respect them, but that does not mean I agree with what they fought for. That said, many times they don't even know what it is they are truly fighting for. Most of them go thinking it is to protect their family, their country, the innocent, etc. It's sad really. I am a national socialist and my grandfather was in the coast guard during WW2. He was a good man fighting for the wrong cause. I didn't lose any respect for him when I grew older and learned of the things that I know now.

Australian veterans, especially those who fought in world wars are highly respected, the whole country flips its shit if even the most slightly negative thing is said about them or their role in the war.

I don't respect anyone for just being a veteran. The military will pretty much take anyone. For most of them, they just couldn't think of anything else to do. It's the stupid option to life.
