Democrats in PA were already fleeing to the Republican party between 2012 and 2016. Bernie did fucking horrible with black people overall, and Trump lost a lot of Republican votes to the Libertarians.

It is possible Cruz could have taken PA assuming that black turnout was even lower and that Cruz retained the votes of suburban Philadelphians.

This is also keeping in mind that if Bernie was the candidate the DNC would probably have sabotaged him out of spite, while Cruz would have had at least a halfway backing by the RNC unlike Trump.

I would guess that it's because Trump has a platform and the liberals don't. You can vote for or against someone, but if the president has a platform and is rapidly working to try and fulfill his promises then his supporters will be more motivated to defend the president and keep the winning going than people who are just voting against him to stop him.

However that guy's poll shows something like a repeat of 2016- even if Trump is disliked, his supporters are fanatical while his opponents just don't care all that much. Meaning that Democrats will have to spend that much more cash trying to drum up support for 2018. Keep in mind Trump has already out-fundraised Obama at the same time in Obama's presidency, so Trump is planning an offense for his party in 2018 on party with the Democratic offense.
