While I find myself doing it too anon, you idealize that time because you know how it turns out. For all we know, our own future could turn out even better, but the future seems grim because things aren't looking so good right now. I'm sure people during the Great Depression thought that could be the end of the US, and that we might not recover. Imagine that in comparison to what we have now, or the Cold War where nuclear war is a daily possibility. I'm not trying to diminish our current struggle or claim that everything is alright, I'm moreso trying to make you see that just because things seem fucked doesn't mean it's the end for sure.

While each one of us is likely to play a relatively insignificant role, if we all gave up, it really would be the end. Instead of idealizing the past while dreading the future, try to make the future ideal, even if it's an inch at a time down a 1,000 mile road. You may not make it all the way, but someone (hopefully your kids, and mine) will pick up where you left off. We only fail when we see the long road ahead of us and instead of trudging on, simply sit down and die. I don't know about you, but I'd rather die on my feet.

I have no idea if living in the 60s/50s would be better, but I would rather just go back to the 90s.

At least it had the internet before it was normalized.
