take it from a Dallasfag, toll roads fucking suck and end up being ran by corrupt companies with worse customer service than government. i'll take a tax-funded road over a toll road anyday

nice job faggot, now implement that in larger scale and in unison with other infrastructure projects
>>
Have you ever SEEN road construction, especially in the Midwest or other places with lots of potholes? The thing takes months not because it's difficult to fix the road, but because the road still has to allow some amount of traffic through it or via diversion to another street. On top of that, if everyone had their roads built privately they could charge a toll or block it to certain individuals, which would be a major problem. For these reasons, roads are built by the state (in U.S.) it's in for the people of that state.

>A flat thing
>Spanning over thousands of kilometers
>Out in the open, through mountains, rivers and withstanding the rage of the elements

>Not even taking into account the property costs it would take considering the road goes through virtually 99% private land belonging to a different
>Suddenly some asshole owning a huge path of land doesn't wanna reach a deal with you so you have to deviate the course 250km and drill through a mountainrange

>Easy
Maybe after the whole region is leveled by the grace of NAP avenging tomahawk missiles and recreational nukes

If you do a shit job fixing your car, you break down and its you that faces the result. If you do a shit job laying tarmac and it sinks and breaks up because you're an amateur, you put others at risk . That is why

I never got that road arguement. You can privitize road construction through a charity even.

This, it's not that road technology is particularly advanced, it's that a centralized road system is necessary for providing the logistics required for common defense

Its not that the roads themselves are complicated, they're pretty darn simple.

Its that roads are *expensive*, a singular expansive unit (a family can't buy a road like they can a car), and you hafta have some sort of community agreement on where roads go.

Most people do not understand just how expensive roads are. Its just gravel and tar, right? Well, no, the road needs to be prepared first, need a flat surface so lots of "landscaping" work. and yeah, a shovel of asphalt isn't expensive but roads are *miles-long* construction projects. My short little driveway is 20ft by 50ft so 1000 square foot of asphalt. Cost about $5k to pave. Now, instead of a 2-lane (barely) section that is only 50ft long, make is 4-lanes, miles and miles long, add in bridges and ramps... highway construction and maintenance are one of if not the major cost centers for cities and states.

How would you pay for that? Well, you can have toll roads where everyone chips in for the road's usage. Thats almost as if you... had a central government collecting taxes to pay for that road instead. Amazing.

Say you want to build a road from X to Y. Privatize it and let 6 different companies build 6 different roads, let the consumer vote with their tollbooth dollars, right? But if roads are expensive, 6 roads are crazy expensive, you'll end up with at least 5 of those companies going bankrupt for their 1/6th capacity roads. Besides, what if there is only room for 1 road between X and Y? How do you compete when the nature of the object is singular?

Why do I bother? Nobody thinking otherwise is capable of reading this much text.

The community does not have to agree on where the roads go. Smaller roads can be built to the main road. You can even build dirt roads like they do in the country, all you need is the right vehicle to drive on them. A road can literally be gravel.

>My short little driveway is 20ft by 50ft so 1000 square foot of asphalt. Cost about $5k to pave.

That's because asphalt roads are expensive. Other roads are not as fuel efficient because it takes more energy to drive over them. Congrats you spent an extra 4k and saved 20 dollars in gas over 5 years.

Well yes the root of the problem is that it doesn't happen for free.

It is possible to get from 1 location to another hundreds of different ways. They don't need to be entirely efficient in their routes. You literally have them all side by side or around something and then towards to get to their destination.

>Why do I bother? Nobody thinking otherwise is capable of reading this much text.

You over-estimate your own point of view and intelligence. For every problem you find there is a solution.
