Although that said the Pacific has been really active in the past month or so, more so than at any point in the last 18 months. Possibly a big one to come somewhere around the region over the summer.

I'm a little bit hesitant to read too much into those convenient coincidences. I'd been hearing buzz about such a thing existing for years, but only relatively recently people getting more specific about what it is and what to expect.

My take has been that the most sane advice has been in the form of "probably within your lifetime" and "well we don't know but if you want to get yourself in good position to ride out whatever happens then look into doing X, Y, and Z, all of which are good ideas anyway."

So I would expect a considerable amount of information chaff.

This country only exists because it's one giant fucking fault line. We are what happens when two continental plates push together and go up.....btw we're due an 8+ earthquake any year now, it's been over 300 years (the cycle time between shakes that big) since the last one....rip Christchurch, they'll turn into silt and liquefy into the ocean along with mostly of the Cantubury plains

Haha.......F

>>134018296
If there's a big release of magma into the water, a realistic possible consequence would be a tremendous amount of superheated steam that would make Tsar Bomba look like a firecracker.

Same as how one of the most dangerous things is that one of the Fukushima cores hits a nice big pool of ground water and gets blown into the sky.

the amount of dust that would be released would completely override the heat of the magma and the water vapor's greenhouse effect
the midwest is going to be buried under ash, even London will have to get used to the weather
the southwestern US will avoid the worst of the ash, up until the cooling takes effect and temperatures plummet
hopefully cali gets fucked over by "The Big One" before Yellowstone causes Western civilization to collapse and take down the global market along with it

There was a CGI recreation the other year of what Pompeii might have looked like over the subsequent few days. The effect of the dust was impressive.

Last time I looked in to any nuclear winter type predictions they were coming from anti-nuke alarmists and so were of course dramatized and exaggerated. But an up to date consideration of the dust aspect is not to be underestimated.

My professional life is much to do with developing and deciding among potential hypotheses, so that goes without saying.

It's just particularly interesting that we've gone from a Coast to Coast type rumor, to a documented history of compelling, if inconclusive study about a possible planet X, to a public PR drop that planet X seems to exist, to a story about odd radio signals.

Seems like a consensus in the making about hypotheses. Of course scientists are wrong all the time, and the whole thing could easily be a canard, but it's worth noticing the trend.

>is there any science behind the moon blocking the light and 'gravity' of the sun and causing the magma under the earth to 'ripple'?
I've never even heard of that before. You'd probably want to be more worried about planet X, irregular sun activity, the magnetosphere, magnetic pole chaos, etc.

But I don't think there's any particularly compelling reason to be worried about a quick trip in the near future. The best you could hope for would be a freak event. I'd rate an economic black swan as a greater worry.

rhe tsunami in japan came from a 9.0 earthquake that was nearly on the coastline, 7.4 near kamchatka wont do shit.
>>
>>134027389
Tsunami are generated due to depth, not necessarily magnitude. A very shallow 7.0 in the ocean will be more likely to produce a tsunami than a very deep 7.0
>>
>>134026778

IMHO I think there is a slight correlation, but when I asked both /out/ and /sci/ I was essentially laughed off the thread as a "conspiracy retard"

Either way if you're there, you'd be dead almost right away. Would be kinda neat to watch it unfold for a few seconds.

Why would Americans need to know anything about that place? We only know about your backwoods country bc the Amazon river is the answer to a trivia question.

Kamchatka volcanoes were erupting a few days ago. Lots of pressure on the north from deep quakes in the south. Japan and Italy are due. Italy possibly 5, Japan up to an 8. Could be some tsunami activity.
