Not really a long term career.

The average competitor makes far less than minimum wage, and the biggest ones still can only do it for so long. Compare that to the average life span and cost of living that perpetually rises everywhere, you need a backup plan.

That being said, I'm not jealous of them and actually think there are dumber things in this world to get riled up over.
>>
>>133994192
Sit and play a game
sport
pick one.

I don't like games, I don't think it's ending western world or anything, it's just not a sport it's a hobby one you compete at like, say pool or ping pong.
Basketball, soccer, baseball cricket, are sports.
Playing vidya, is a hobby. The fact it's a big thing now, is just market demand.
>>
>>133994192
It was fun participating. I played in the LoL college tournament and it got me some scholarship money through the school. It's not a "sport" to me. It's like chess or being a scrabble expert or some crap. Just far better as far as being a watchable event goes. No harm no foul, let people play and watch. If there's money in it, all the better.
>>
I dislike the idea of watching sports in general so there's that. I hate cult followers who follow every detail of their lives.
>>133994495

You can't refute the fact that there's a lot that goes into a good e-sport as far as intelligence goes. CS, DOTA, and LoL all are juggernauts in the scene and require a decent depth of understanding to ply well. Just like how in chess there's gambits openings and styles to learn
>>

Asian and white devil's sad attempt to find a sport we won't dominate.

>>
>>133995327
Yes but chess is purely logic-based.
Anyone can learn to play CSGO/LoL good if they try long enough, read some manuals etc. tactics-wise.
>>
>>133994515
its still in early stages and as soon as the teams realize how important marketing a proper image is they pay rates will go up

sports have never been a long term career but eventually theyll learn how to make a few mil before they get out

I can appreciate the mechanical and planning skills involved, like with an RTS game, but it's weird for me thinking of it as an athletic sport in the same way as baseball or hockey. I'd consider it as more as electronic chess with more visual effects.
>>
>>133994192
get a job hippies
>>
>>133995634
Logic isn't the be all end all of intelligence, dude. There's a lot of types of intelligence. For actual good CS play there is so much going on a layman doesn't see in terms of mind games (fake attacks, baits, etc.).And if you think you can't get a decent chess ranking just by learning the playout of common game "tropes" I don't think you played a lot of chess...

Yes, I know that, but you're making vidya sound far more complicated than it is in 99% cases.
Tbqh depends how you play chess. Irl it'd be pretty stupid to have predetermined set of moves.

Me and my friend play chess for three years. It would be pretty stupid if we had the same openings for years.
As for vidya, I don't play multiplayer much so I truly don't know.
>>
>>133996476
Openings and gambits in chess are very rigid sets of ~10-20 moves. The deviations from those core moves are themselves gambits and "openings". Like no duh some people can be brain-dead and play League well. But that's just because they have good muscle memory. Csing, last hitting, other mechanics are just a fundamental level of skill. That's why they get shotcallers and there are some people who are much better at landing than others. They worked past just muscle memory to actual logic in the game. I know the fizz is gonna troll-poll my Ahri combo, but if the guy's trigger is my charm, I can bait an all in by sacrificing my charm to start the actual trade. Ya know?
>>

>>
>>133996916
You probably don't realize it but you're most likely playing a loose version of named and classic openings. Simply moving queen side pawn to counter king side pawn opening from white is a famous move that people don't know they're doing.
>>

Its an esport.
>>
>>133996916
I was referring to vidya specifically, my bad. You're right in saying that video games are 99% of the time not very complex. But we aren't talking about 99% of the time, we're talking about pro e-sports. I play CSGO a fair amount and can attest to the fact that it's quite a complex game as far as strategy and logic are concerned. When you're playing against people who are as good, if not better, at aiming and strategy, you have to go even further. And that's what happens in pro matches.
>>
>>133994192
Problem I have is that most games (probably some exceptions) are a finite field with finite options. Play the game enough and you know most nearly every option.

You can play a game 8 hours a day for a year and become a god at it. You can play hockey, football, etc. 8 hours a day and not even be close to reaching the NHL.

I don't have a problem with it being promoted/having large payouts, it's like those people who play poker professionally.
>>
>>133994192

Gaming is never and will never be a sport.
>>
>>133994192
I hate that the term e-sports took off, and I hate that people refer to competitive video game players as any form of athlete. I hate that people have made videos and long drawn out detailed arguments for why the level of muscle memory and control needed to be top level at XXX game is elite and athletic. I have competed in first person shooters actively since 2002. I have played my share of CSGO on LAN and online tournaments/leagues. It's a hobby. There is nothing sporty or athletic about the whole thing.

Watching professionals play it is interesting to me as someone who played at a high level but I would never expect or hope that anyone who doesn't play these games would somehow become a fan of this as a spectator sport, because that doesn't make any sense in my mind.
>>
i guess they make big bank, looks like some shitty games to me though.
>>
>>133997431
I beg to differ. I've tried to sit down and "coach" kids to get better at league. They could play forever and never break platinum. Simply because they lack the ability to play and understand the game at that level. Same with football. I could brute force teach a kid to be good, but there are limits to how high he can climb. If the limit is too easy the market would saturate which isn't the case for video games or football. The gap in skill between US and KR is so huge still even with the discipline US players are puttting in.
>>
>>133997507

I dont think shes a gold digger. She clearly is hyper obssesed with him just like a fan girl and it makes sense with her being only 18. If anything it's kinda weird how much she's into him. She cooks for him, cleans and generally taking care of him extremely compulsively despite him showing no emotion and being extremely lazy. She also talks to him like he was a baby and coddles him enough for it to be weird. She has a blatant mother fetish stacked on top of being an obssesed fan while being his girlfriend. What you have just written can also be applied to chess games.

Chess also has their popular tactics, btw.
Start watching some RTS games, the most exciting part of a competitive game is how the players react to eachother and depend on nothing but their knowledge of the game and their predicting skills.

DoW Soulstorm and Age of Empires II are good beginnings.

Chess isn't logic based in any way, shape or form. It's memory based for 80% of the game. The remaining 20% is called not being a fucking retard. No logic involved. Moreover, luck has the greatest impact on the outcome: white can never lose and black can never win against an identically skilled opponent. At high level play, you can drop the "identically skilled" restriction completely as well.
>>
Much like sport, it should be done by Amateurs for pleasure. Professional sports tend to boil down to a "meta" that makes them increadibly boring to watch.
>>
>>133994515
Essentially this, though some of the most popular names can use their e-sports career and live off of twitch donations from streaming. The biggest names doing this make 7 figures. Even if it's only a few years, that's enough to make several million and spend the rest of your life doing whatever you want.

And while there is limited career options after, since the industry and industry knowledge can transfer between games, you can become a coach for the new hit game once the old one falls off, so it's not a complete wash.

Oh boo hoo, get off your elitist gay-mur pedestal. The game is designed perfectly for e-sport longevity. A simple premise with a forced rotating meta resulting in a "fresh" game every few months that keeps it alive.

When you spend time perfecting a skill, make money off it, then live life however you want after you have accomplished the minimal task of acquiring (money), who the fuck cares what you do.

Why don't you do something with your life, how about handing out flyers from your local mosque about Sharia law?
>>
>>134002898
I agree and disagree with you. A sport, to me, is something that pushes a person to be more, or better than others. An athlete is someone you and your nation should be able to be proud of, be it a chess master or a soccer player. Currently sports is all about jews making money off of niggers, with no sense to national pride. E-sports is a joke for an entire different set of reasons, the easiest to point out is an ever shifting playing field with rules/objectives/goals that might not even exist next time you watch it. "e-sports" was fine back when it wasn't "e-sports" and was hobbyists competing in their hobby, but as an actual sponsored televised sport it is destined to fail.

I don't mind the act of gaming for money or tournaments bad itself, but the "e-sport" branding is 100% cringe. Like video game award shows. It's a bunch of people too insecure to just say "I like to play video games", so it has to be "sports" or "art".

western esports is trash, mostly korean but other eastern esports is interesting because it's a complete other level.

game server differences are honestly a big race red pill, asian ones the best, european ones far worse but second best, then american and 3rd world countries far lower. I've also noticed that the higher skilled players also correlate with being red pilled in general on the european servers at least, I've seen people with moonman avatars or saying they intentionally lose because they have Turks on their team or how they know someone is a girl or a muslim because of how bad they play.

there's a poison gas character on league, and someone plays him every game and his name is something like 'Portable Auschwitz', i also have been in a game with someone called something like 'Hitlersexual' and the chat was filled with 'oy vey the goyim know' and '1488' and '((()))'

finally though, how is this relevant to politics?

I've been a competitive gamer for a long time and esports is a comically bad career choice. The rules of the sport change every few months, the competitive pool is massively higher than conventional sports, and there are none of the side benefits of being an athlete associated with it because you're not promoting physically attractive human Adonises. As a result, most professional gamers practice one repetitive activity 10+ hours a day in cramped living spaces with a bunch of other dudes to make about 2k a month. Your entire livelihood can be taken away by some inept developer making some idiotic patch on his coffee break that removes your whole playstyle from viability. The end goal used to be to try and spin it into some hardware or peripheral gig, these days it's to try and build an audience for a full time streaming gig. And like any other career, a momentary lapse in judgment (Dafran) can get you fired. The difference is, if you get fired as an engineer, you're still an engineer. If you get fired from your Starcraft gig, you're flipping burgers at McDonalds at 25-35 years old.

As far as I know, Astralis pay themself a 100k salary (that was like 18months ago). Add prize money, personal sponsorships and livestream income most professionals (people that play in a 1st tier team in a 1st tier game in their region) can make 200k to 250k without to much effort/success. I think Boxers, Nadas or Flash (Starcraft Players) Net Worth is over 10million USD for each.

70% of his income were merchendise sales. The rest was prize money, sponsorships, livestream donations and contract salary. Ocelote (Carlos Rodriguez) played for a avarage team but was a fan favorite. I said in another post that 1st tier players in 1st tier games (League, CSGO and Dota) earn a 6 figure salary + prize money + personal income.

I think there are around 500 to 1000 players that earn that 6 figure salary playing video games.

Costs of living are very low since their team provides them with a flat/room and most other stuff.

Right now if you are around 20 and you have the chance to get picked up by a very good team you should try it out for a year or two at the very least. Worst case is that you traded 100k for a wasted year in your early 20s. If you manage to play on the highest level for more than 5 years you have to be really dumb not to be a millionaire. E-Sports is a rapidly growing market. Tournament prize pools are grwoing 25% anually and overall prize money grows 40% anually... and I don't think that trend will stop in the near future.

Now try again, with the fact that humans compete against humans in chess 100% of the time and take a hard logical think of why what you said has absolutely no relevance.

The e-sports economy is disproportionately funded by whales/corporations. It's very similar to the free-to-play/freemium game market where they get like 99% of the profits from like 0.1% of the playerbase. It's a bubble waiting to pop.

Question is, when will these bubbles pop?

You have mostly publishers, energy drink companies and hardware companies found it. Advertisers have a very well targeted audience of around 200million. I don't really think it's a bubble (yet). Look at the billions in any popular real sport. And their audience isn't necessarily bigger. The comercial trait of merchendise, sponsorship attractiveness and ticket sales is just significantly better developed.
