Last year my boss put me in charge of booking rooms for staff going to a conference. I got to call reservations departments of various high end hotels and negotiated rates on 30 rooms. At the time cnn were on another one of their anti trump pro hard working feminist lesbian Mexican illegals stories. I'd had enough of the bullshit.

I said to all the hotels, price not that big of an issue, what we need to know is if you are cnn affiliated. Six said yes. I told them 'sorry bout that, my boss is adamant we cant support a hotel that broadcasts that network. Thank you for your time we will take our business elsewhere'.
The seventh said no its not a channel on our list. We booked with them.

Reality is my boss probably dgaf. But felt good telling reservations departments that they were losing out on at least $15k in accommodation and god knows how much more in food and beverage just because they showed cnn.

That's not how tv ratings works. Changing the channel in public places won't do a damned thing. Tv ratings are based on the Nielsen system. Nielsen sends out booklets to several million tv viewers, they fill them out and mail them back to Nielsen in exchange for a small payment. I get a Nielsen book so trust me on this. CNN's revenue is mostly from subscriber fees, not from advertisers, so even if you could get Nielsen households to stop watching CNN they would still stay in business. The only thing that will kill off CNN for good is to get enough people to drop cable TV. Do that and they're finished, that is the one and only thing that will get rid of them.

But a mass booking of 30 rooms for two nights I managed to get them down to $170 per room per night.
They take a hit there with the promise of rebooking next year. Add all the f and b extras and they've done well out of it.
