The show famously had it's DVD releases squashed after S6/S7 because Mike Judge made Idiocracy which made fun of Fox News. In retaliation, they squashed all further DVD releases for KOTH.

Mike Judge had to beg Fox to license the show out to another company to get the remaining seasons released and that took about 8-9 years. In which, in the meantime, the Fox DVD releases for the first couple of seasons fell out of print and go for huge bucks.

It was already heavily censored, several episodes still haven't and probably never will see the light of day and most people only think it ran for 1 or 2 seasons because the rest has been buried. I love the Andy Griffith Show. Small town Americana, everything was so simple and innocent. It was a genuinely funny show (which still holds up- Barney's First Car is a great example of the timeless humor) and even had plenty of heartfelt moments. It was a show that could teach a valuable life lesson, while also being entertaining, well made, and funny. Quality shows like that these days are a rarity.
