Fairly clueless British person here.

Is Donald Trump doing a good job?

Some of my friends who watch clips from John Oliver and The Daily Show think he's the biggest idiot on the planet. I suggested that the media they consume might be shaping their perception of reality. I was met with some rather mean responses.

Economy is doing great, illegal immigration is way down. Cut government spending by backing out of retarded Paris accord. Renegotiating lopsided treaties like NAFTA and TPP.

Honestly he could just coast now and be in the top 10 presidents.
>>
>>133850402
Id say 5/10 so far. Hast gotten anything done but has tried to for almost everything he campaigned on. Also hasn't taken us into any wars.

They literally get paid for this. They have no other criticism, and it would would be end their careers if they were to let it be known that anything had been gotten done.

Trump's doing a pretty noice job so far, considering the uphill battle.
>>
>>133850402
He's doing great and has had a lot of success despite a relentless fake news smear campaign and Obama's last 3 months in office being entirely about putting as many blocks in his way as possible, both technically legal and absolutely illegal ones.

He tweets something stupid and the media reports it for 48 to 72 hours as the biggest thing in the history of the whole world. And while they're doing that, he's getting legislation passed and shit. And I hear ISIS is basically gone in Syria, but maybe I don't have all those facts.

it's because he's being a flamboyant asshat and freaking out the general public and hte rest of the world.

but when you actually boil it down to the objective stats

trump economy is in slow down mode and we are going into a another recession. for consumer confidence to crash in the summer, unless there's a war, that's a really really really bad fucking sign. people are out inthe summer spending on vacations normally, they aren't, they are hoarding money. The problem is most people are too stupid to realize the american president isnt an all powerful monarch. Right now our congress/senate are the issue with establishment GOP control people who have been in that position their entire lives and havent done fuckall towards making the country great because doing anything risks them getting elected. Congress/Senate votes seem to be based solely on bashing the other guy and if you dont do shit you don't get bashed.

Mid term elections for congress is coming in 2018. You MAY see something like congress going down the list of Trump promises and getting everything voted on and into law while the elections are on the horizon (everyone will remember) and that might get them voted back in....unless they sniff out they can do nothing or the opposite and get re-elected then they will do that.

Trump is doing fine, he is fighting back which is a first for an american president fighting back against the commie/socialist establishment and media....only other person to do this was JFK and maybe Lincoln...and well...you know....

Trump cannot do it all, and what he has done is through executive orders, which isnt good....and can easily be undone. He needs congress to make what he promised law...its up to them and they continually rank with a 5%-15% approval rating they are that bad but somehow stay for life.

"Chaos" and "incompetent" have been thrown around a lot. Has done a lot of little things. Some are just symbolic some do some good. Healthcare has been fighting in congress all year. >Is Donald Trump doing a good job?

He has not gotten one piece of legisation through Congress to make good on a single campaign promise.

Presidents push their agenda in the first 100 days, yet he has squandered that, and more, without a single win in Congress.

The Congress is Republican, just like him. It should be a slam dunk. Instead, he berated Republicans and refuses to work with them.

By no objective standard can you say Trump is doing a good job.

Those same Republicans were dragging his name through the mud throughout his entire campaign alongside the Democrats. Trump is essentially RINO; he probably would have run on his own party if it wasn't for the fact that you have to play as one side or the other to win in this country.

not to mention it is a tiny fraction of what is needed. Notice Trump now wants a fence instead of his big beautiful 40' high, 20' wide, 20' deep wall? And he wants it on less than half of the border. And that half is already pretty much covered.

Let's look over some of what he's done:

Exec order sampling:
>Repealed 13532 (Obama) via 13779
>This defunds federal support for "historically black colleges and universities" while claiming to "strengthen ability to equitably participate in federal programs"
>"strengthening HBCUs through enhanced institutional planning and development, fiscal stability, and financial management"
>ie "stop sucking at finance" instead of "gib dem programs"
>this order was titled "The White House Initiative to Promote Excellence and Innovation at Historically Black Colleges and Universities"

>13802 - "Amendment of Executive Order 13597" - repeals part of 13597 (Obama)
>repeals one section of a visa reform from previously
>"ensure that 80 percent of nonimmigrant visa applicants are interviewed within 3 weeks of receipt of application, recognizing that resource and security considerations and the need to ensure provision of consular services to U.S. citizens may dictate specific exceptions;"
>Indicates further work to reconsider the whole section about it
>this implies further removal of quotas and country-based considerations over time
He passes an average of 1.6 executive orders per week since his inauguration, and I personally like the vast majority of them.
Here's an easily-navigated list:

Note that their titles do not usually reflect their meanings.
Note that their phrasing does not usually reflect their effects

He is. He's fucking over Merkel with the 3-seas initiative. Chinks are actually scared to start shit now. Korea is finally going to be dealt with. Oboama-care is about to become history. The White house has purged the disloyal lefties. The supreme court is now right wing for the next 40 years. Socialist programms are getting cut left and right. Foreign funding of NGOs is about to get banned and the financial support for groups like BLM and Antifa is about to vanish into thin air because of it.

>Some of my friends who watch clips from John Oliver and The Daily Show think he's the biggest idiot on the planet. I suggested that the media they consume might be shaping their perception of reality. I was met with some rather mean responses.

Trump is being missrepresented by Left-wing media world-wide.
Remember why they are left wing - their main offices are in large cities where worthless service jobs dominate along with humanities-universities which are predominantely left wing.

Trump is elected because we needed someone to be the leader in a war against the left.

It's working.

Conservatives have tried playing nice with Bush, MCCain and Romney but has seen nothing but ridicule over the decades. Now Trump is actually firing back and shitting on them and they're clueless on what to do because this has never happened before. Just a year ago being called a sexist, racist hitler would have killed anyone's life but Trump is showing by example that all the left can do is insult you and resort to violence when they're outmatched for once.

Trump isn't a normal president, he's breaking every norm of the office essentially. You can't judge him at this point by comparing him with past presidents. Obama for instance had control of congress in his first year of office and he was able to pass a good amount of legislation including Obamacare, which killed the Democratic Party and from that point on they lost over a thousand seats and control of both houses. The rest of his presidency was uneventful. At the rate Trump's going he's likely to get better and accomplish more as time goes on, due to the continuous purging of disloyalists and the continued implosion of the DNC.

>Is Donald Trump doing a good job?

Honestly, he's doing better than I expected. I wouldn't say he's a great president; but he's handling the economy rather well and he hasn't made any serious policy fuck ups.

Much of his time is being spent in an asinine war with the press who work for the Democratic political establishment or for the Neo Conservative Republican establishment and neither of them like him. Which is in and of itself reason to support him. The Russian connection is a nothing burger; but sadly our press don't have the integrity to care about the truth any more.

I do wish Trump would act a little more presidential and hold off on getting in petty arguments with journalists on Twitter; but aside from that I'm reasonably satisfied with his performance.

More Americans are proud of being American again, since that went down the shitter under Obama, or at least where I'm from (Kentucky).
He needs to push legislation, he's not gotten hardly anything done outside of executive orders and some overseas gibs. If he stops saying stupid shit on twitter and be a little more refined he would be just fine I think. In my opinion he digs himself holes to punch the media, which is okay in some aspects, but it's going to undermine him, I'm afraid.
Most of the shit on TV, even Fox anchors, are shills to their respective interests and don't provide objective reporting in my opinion. Especially not anything from Comedy Central, which the name of the channel cuts any credibility from objective reporting anyway.
His administration isn't entirely staffed by his own people anyway, so that's going to limit his effectiveness for his agenda as well.
Congress isn't helping. Too many people, Republicans, afraid of taking political hits for enacting policy which they ran on because of shilling from Democrats. Republicans are afraid of Dem rhetoric and have shit legislation for the most part too.

>has a humiliating defeat to repeal ACA in the house, basically does a power quit regarding his involvement with legislation
>legislation finally gets through the house, has the nerve to celebrate as if he actually did anything
>bill is in Senate and is slowly turn back into Obamacare

Meanwhile, he pulled out of the Paris treaty while cucked coal miners and factory workers who voted for him still lose their jobs because almost every major corporation, state and city government opposes the federal government on these issues yet he still thinks he can bully everyone into getting his way which hasn't worked in the slightest. Trump basically hasn't done anything important, besides nominating Gorsuch. Trumpcare is on life support (and even if it does pass, it's very much a Ryan/McConnell bill, not a Trump one), the temporary travel ban eventually took effect but was neutered, and the the border wall has apparently been forgotten altogether.

On the flip side, he hasn't started a war, and job growth has been about as good as it was under Obama, so he hasn't really hurt anything.

For all liberals said he'd be Hitler and /pol/ said he's MAGA, he's been surprisingly unimportant.

>>133861664
I don't think it is. The nazis were arguably the best propagandists in history and they had a much different view on humor. Their party spent a lot of money researching and perfecting the art of propaganda and they concluded that portraying the enemy as comical was detrimental to their own cause. If you convince your people that the other side is comical then their morale will fall apart the moment they actually come up against the opposition and discover that they're fierce.
Hate will always be the best emotion to elicit in propaganda. Convincing people that the other side is vile boosts morale and instills a sense of urgency in the fight against them.
If John Oliver isn't just in it to make money, if his primary intention really is to push an agenda rather than cater to some morons who want their opinions validated then he's doing the left a big disservice by convincing them that Donald Trump is too stupid and incompetent to tear down progressives' policies.

The media made Trump out to be a joke and mocked him for over a year leading up to the election. With the margins so thin in the swing states the left probably could have won if they put more effort into portraying Trump's ideas as vile rather than incompetent.

/pol/'s influence doesn't stem from its humor. The deep seated hatred here is what really keeps this place together.

Trump did bomb Syrian airfields but he first put in a "courtesy call" a few hours ahead so that any Russian personnel there has a chance to bug out. Y'know, to prevent that whole "World War Three" thingy.
McMaster, the general running the operation, had supplied some sort of nebulous "intel" that there were stockpiles of nerve gas there, though past incidents of gas use/accident were from the Syrian rebel forces. The downsides of Assad using gas is much too great for Assad to use it. Besides, Assad agreed to not use gas to John Kerry, who had mistakenly offered a end to US intervention if Assad turns over his gas weapons. Kerry accidentally almost stopped the war.
The Tomahawk cruise missiles expended were old, their shelf life was coming up in a few months and they were to be dismantled anyway. Most missiles hit the tarmac and the damage was repaired in a few hours. No gas agents were hit and none released.
Things there are murky; lots of different players, lots of different agendas, lots of misdirection and lies.

Really hard to tell what is Trump and what is just American culture. The press never challenged Obama and that isn't a good place to be in. Trump makes arguments and incites debate. It's hard to say. He seems to be doing quite well especially considering the lot he's been given to work with, but the presidency has much more of an effect on the long term outlook of a nation than it's short term outlook.

That being said it's very early to say, check back at the two year mark and we'll have a pretty good idea of the effects his first year's policies have had.

Virtually all of the mainstream media is super biased against him to the point where sometimes it's hard to find legitimate information on him as you find that people are lying about lies that other people joked about in passing when paraphrasing someone. You really can't take any of it seriously unless you can verify it yourself and that's difficult.

tl;dr
So far it's kind of a shrug. Things are better than expected here in the now, but that's not nessarily going to last. We'll see.

I am pleased with what he is doing....rule of law is back ..the separation of powers within our government is working like it was supposed to. economy is up, america is beginning to gain power internationally again, cops and soldiers are less afraid so they do their jobs better, less traitors in the administration (like holder, lynch, rhodes, arrest, rice, pedestal) Trump wants good deals for the nation not zealous marxism like our last president.....he is not gonna steal from he country.....so...

10/10 would vote for again...MAGA
