There's no need for spaces between words in Japanese so that's not an issue either.

Regarding Kanji, yes, the sheer number is a pain, but what's really awful is the fact each one has several different seemingly random pronunciations. Each Kanji generally has one or multiple Chinese-derived readings and one or multiple Japanese-derived readings. It is brutal.

The grammar is a bit strange, but not too difficult. Pronunciation is not hard in terms of the sounds but they are quite picky about syllable length and intonation.
