I honestly couldn't imagine ww3 breaking out. The majority of western countries are full of people with no real desire to just fucking die. I agree with the majority of posters in saying that WW3 doesn't seem likely - that being said I'm not sure anyone expects a WW. My apologies for indulging in Americo-centrism, but in my estimation the most likely cause would be the collapse of America as the loss of the World's premiere superpower would leave all other countries to fight for superiority. I would not place my bets on anything of that sort happening in the near future. If anything I'd think it would happen by the time we reach are elderly years (not a good time for one to live through a major war).

Eh, people desire purpose in life even if that purpose is at the cost of their safety and financial wellbeing. Hitler referred to the first world war as the happiest time of his life because despite it being the worst war in human history for one of the first times in his life he felt as though he was doing something meaningful, plus the military brings with it a sense of camaraderie simply by virtue of a bunch of men being stuck together for long periods of time.

I actually studied engineering, realized half way through my degree I hated engineering and should have joined the military like I always wanted, finished my degree, joined the army, and went to OCS. Probably earning less than if I decided to work in the civilian workforce but I don't regret a single thing, even ignoring the retarded military worship in the US I simply enjoy being in the military. I'm not going to claim I'm fighting for a great cause or anything but at least I enjoy what I'm doing.
