Okay lads help me understand something, probably a dumb question but I'm curious.
Britbong here on a study year. Where I studying - the Silesian region I've noticed that some of the Poles here have tan skin, dark hair and brown eyes. Why? They look vastly different to other Poles I've encountered which are your typical pale Potato types lads.
Many Silesians would become irate upon being called "Poles". They're different peoples, with different languages and (slightly) different cultures.

>Many Silesians
Do you mean those ~5K crypto-Germans calling themselves Silesians that have a wet dream of Silesia being part of Germany again ?

Most people in western Poland were forcibly moved there after ww2. They used to live in what is now Belarus, Ukraine and Lithuania

Western Slavs had some kind of mountain-phobia. For long time they refuse to settle in southern regions. So, in western part of polish carpathian moutains they give land to Vlahs/Romanians, and eastern was settled by Eastern Slavs/Ukrainians.
They spread north. Therefore northern part of Poland is more nordic and southern is somewhat medditerranian.

Coal mines don't change how you look
