I really don't understand the Spanish obsession with this idea. It was tried, it failed miserably. Portuguese don't want it, and at least half of Portuguese history involves kicking invading Spaniards, their shitty ideas, and their useless dynastic conflicts to the curb. To top everything off, Spain can scarcely even hold its current ramshackle union together.
