You are thick, if Germany were to attack France, they would have to go through the maginot line and suffer heavy losses, if they did not they would have to go through Belgium and that would bring the UK to their side. The plan kept France safer, from invasion in a plan, IRL they decided to attack before they got attacked themselves.
