Modernism, not capitalism. Blame liberalism and progressivism for destroying traditionalist aesthetics, capitalism only works with what it's got, and if it's got brutalist morons, then that's what gets made.

>Modern capitalism is just as subversive as Marxism. The materialistic view of life on which both systems are based is identical. As long as we only talk about economic classes, profit, salaries, and production, and as long as we believe that real human progress is determined by a particular system of distribution of wealth and goods, then we are not even close to what is essential.

Because we focus too much on money, and because we allow it to. Calitalism is fine, but like everything, in moderation. We should buy what we need but avoid decadence and a reliance on materialism. Problem is the decadant have learned they can have the masses supply their decadence.
We need to impliment a focus on culture amd the folk, instead of the focus on economics and monetary systems that have taken over our societies entierly.
It's not capitalism, it's decadence and gluttony and lustfulness and greediness that can follow when the people become docile.

I remember going camping way out in the mountains, only two tiny little buildings were within at least 45 miles or so around me.
I've been to small towns and seen the stars before, they indeed look quite nice. But even in small towns, or strips between towns with a few roadlights, it pales in comparison to the beauty of the sky totally undisturbed by light.
It's evil that we blot out what has been a source of wonder and inspiration for our species for all time until recently. We have something so beautiful hanging right above us and we can't even see it, it's been blocked from our view, censored, by electric lights. It makes so much of a difference. I pray for mass EMPs to be set off.

Or maybe it has more to do with that technology has advanced since then where the costs of placing giant advertisements or whatever onto buildings becomes a viable use of their resources and that future building adopt that instead.

Architectural beauty is more expensive and doesn't recoup its' costs.

Well, that is, it's more expensive unless the (((architect))) making an ugly turd is in high-demand for some reason while the aesthetic architect, due to not making shit-boxes, is in low demand

Cost mostly and just market forces, labor costs too. Regulations also squeeze the profit.

It's just a general global trend though and it's incorrect to blame it on capitalism. It's like blaming white people for everything just because they've been most successful. You put the blame on the easiest target. No good deed goes unpunished.

Inflated costs always come when you want a building that stands out. Those traditional buildings might be nice, but they're not special. And if you want to go cheaper you'll go corbusier style, that's when you get efficient construtions which will be both practical and reusable for future use.

Mostly not unique enough, but also not grand enough in a sense.
These cities just want a building that stands out, and with modern architecture you can make a museum look very unique.

I guess you can make a traditional dome or something but then it comes off as a try hard fake monument. In the past people built things in the style that was, seems strange to suddenly copy everything from the past.

Not to mention in the past people like master-carpenters and specialized architects to put their own flair to a building too. Don't think we could recreate the flair these buildings had these days with ease.

I don't dislike traditionalism, but I do feel there's a need to merge it with modernism.

This is very normal and strongest argument against traditional architecture, that it doesn't "fit the time" and in many ways you are correct.

I guess my biggest problem with modernism and post-modernism is that it was primarily a reactionary movement that discarded everything old. Modernism and post-modernism didnt build on old architectural styles or draw inspiration from anything old. The more bizarre it looks the better
