325 magnetic data tape reels
PN8 [Pioneer 8]: 1 reel
PN9 [Pioneer 9]: 2 reel
PN10 [Pioneer 10): 40 reels
PN11 [Pioneer 11]: 53 reels
HELl [or] HEL-A [Helios 1]: 10 reels
HESA [possibly an abbreviation for Helios A]: 2 reels
Intelsat IV: 2 reels
Unlabelled or labelled without mission-related identifying information: approximately 215 reels
“There is no evidence that suggests this material is historically significant... I recommend disposal through the immediate destruction of all magnetic tapes.”
So my question would be, is there something on these tapes they don't want us to see?
What one does with material with possible historical significance is not usually "destroy it immediately".
Granted, the condition of the tapes is so far gone that any data recovery is unlikely, and they say they are probably analog instrumentation tapes, which do not hold data of much value anyways.

this guy is about to get rich or disappear
and I bet he'd trade it all for a blowjob

at least they let them keep the hardware, i know it's very niche but it's still collectible, especially for nasa equipment, museum or collector might want it one day.

Do you retards not even read? NASA picked the tapes up a while back. They are probably already destroyed. NASA left the computers because they are worthless and too heavy
The only reason they are there is because NASA got rid of them decades ago.
I'd love to take that thing home and dick around with those vacuum tubes.
Nothin' like smooooooth "infinite" technology to reproduce sound. (as opposed to the harsh quantized digi-crap we have today, ugh!)

Yes, I've read the report linked in the article. They assumed the tapes' contents from the labels. No attempt at recovering the data was made AFAIK. And as for the unlabelled tapes? They assume they're empty or ready to be "scratched".
Which all makes sense to me, but who is to say they don't contain some, I don't know, revealing intercepts?
What is curious is that film from that era is extremely flammable and even if it's wrongly transported it could lead into quickly spreading fire or explosion.

However given the stupidity of people I doubt these archives will never see the daylight again. Maybe rich collector buys them and keeps them in his vaults or the cracker just destroys them.

Why? NASA erased more tapes and we're no closer to finding the truth.
Play tape expecting to see secret moon base. It turns out to be a record of 5v line to some component for 70 hours.

wtf i hate nasa now
