This guy >>133661306 is only half right. Lower-level jobs such as Accounts payable clerks and general bookkeepers may be automated, but higher-level accounting, such as that which requires the CPA and CMA certifications won't be going anywhere anytime soon. His article didn't list any numbers and was just "muh AI," so here are some stats from the BLS:

>Employment of accountants and auditors is projected to grow 11 percent from 2014 to 2024, faster than the average for all occupations.
>In general, employment growth of accountants and auditors is expected to be closely tied to the health of the overall economy. As the economy grows, more workers should be needed to prepare and examine financial records.

With the economy on the upswing, things are looking great for the profession. I know there's only so much you can trust anecdotal evidence, but I had a job offer in my hand at the beginning of my senior year, studying for the CPA now.

Forgot to mention how versatile the major is. Learning the theory behind bookkeeping and good accounting practices carries over into other business professions such as management, international strategy (i.e.: tax planning as one example), marketing and entrepreneurship (i.e.: knowing how to account for a small business if you choose to start one) so you're a more well-rounded businessman.

Put another way, it's easy for an accountant to become a middle-manager, but asking a middle-manager with a marketing degree to become an accountant is much more difficult.

Nursing degrees make a pretty good living and you don't necessarily have to do bed-side nursing. I have a friend w/ BSN and she works arranging home health shit for old people (office job, always on vacations) and she makes like $120k/yr.

Leaning a trade in a recession is a waste of time, trades are the first to be laid off when everything goes to shit and nobody is accepting apprentices when the economy is slow

t. trade school student who graduated into a recession and only found an apprenticeship after 27 months of searching

2 years in trade school and then 2 years job hunting to make $23/h as a first year apprentice...not worth it. In those 4 years I could have got a CS degree and be making 60k+ starting
>>
>>133661245
>comp sci
Completely terrible degree. A lot of hiring opportunities but the pay cap is extremely low for the amount of work you have to do and you have to compete with pajeet for positions. The money in computers has moved towards hardware and managing networks, as companies are content at the moment with hiring third world programmers to make a steaming pile of shit and then hiring one senior programmer at the end to come and clean everything up.

>>133661332
>computer and information systems good for software engineering

>>
>>133660061
Lots of great things to study. The key is finding something that can survive the ups and downs of the different markets.

Don't bet all your money on any particular industry being great. Be able and willing to move around between industries and pick a field of study that can survive that.

For example: in a great oil market a petroleum engineer can make more than an electrical engineer. But when that market swings down, so does their paycheck. And because they don't have a great number of prospects available, a lot of companies won't hire petroleum engineers in a pinch. This is because it's obvious that they will leave the minute the market swings back up.

Good majors are the ones that are in many markets. If your major is needed somewhere for national defense/security in any way shape or form, chances are you will be okay.

Too funny. Culinary school is the biggest fraud. I'm in FL and worked in kitchens in high school and we would get a constant stream or applicants from the "Le Cordon Bleu" school up the road who were applying to work elbow to elbow with a kitchen full of high schoolers and spics.

>>
>>133660061

Best degree is a vocational certification that teaches you real skills to fix or make things, which greatly increase your chances of owning your own business down the road.

By all means though, pay $50k for a degree so you can get a $40k a year job and hopefully retire making $65k a year, which the vocationally educated person will be making after 5 years and be his own boss the whole time.

Nobody cares. Physics graduates work with money for banks, traders or get put into think tanks to talk about money.

>gives me insight into our fellow creatures that inhabit this planet
>having a minor in zoology or biology shows that I'm not a soulless STEMlord automaton
People that hire other people don't care if you're soulless. In fact, it would be a benefit because you're going to go and work in a bank. If you want to give off the impression that you have a soul, lie about doing some community work or volunteering at an animal shelter. Or better yet, go and do those things. It doesn't make sense to waste the money you're spending on education to give yourself a degree thats worth less than your peers, because you wanted to give off the impression that you have a soul to people that only give a fuck if you can make the money flow.

None. There are no good degrees anymore unless you need to go into something highly specialised. The education you can receive for MOST things is available online. Just find a curriculum for an Oxford course, or something, and then do it yourself.

Unless you need to do something highly specific, and you need a piece of paper to show, then don't do it. Learn a trade so you can make enough money to do that university thing in your spare time.

to enter the job market, you'll need to prove you have said skills, by mainly three means: either a hard/prestigious degree (like engineering), a certification (like financial planning) or an actual track record (like in sales)

you don't want to be self-employed, you gotta work for a corporation if you want to make a decent salary, have decent benefits and don't run too many risks

now to narrow down the options the most important factor by far to consider is LOCATION, people usually choose something they "like" and then struggle to find a job where they are or have to move across the country, my advice is to go the other way around, find out where you want to live first, then see what industries are in the area, look up a job you think you'd like and now you have a clear set of skills to pursue and improve on, this is a straightforward path to becoming a marketable person and let's be honest, the place where you live will probably have as much or even more weight in how much you enjoy your life than what you do in your work day to day

having said that, there are a few skill sets that are hard to acquire and apply to almost every industry (like sales); skill sets that are hard to acquire but are too especialized (engineering); skill sets that are easier to acquire and apply to almost every industry (like management); and skill sets that are easier to acquire but are too especialized (like HVAC repair); this is listed in decreasing order for expectancy of more job opportunities, meaning if you are a good salesman you'll literally have people begging you to work for them, but a good HVAC repairman would hardly find himself without a job

note that some degrees won't provide you with a skill set at all (like many of the humanities and even generic business degrees) while other skill sets can be learned without leaving your computer chair (like graphic design)

ill be honest. i have no idea where i want to live. I cant go to california or some shit for that legalized weed because of my job. At least until it becomes federally legal and even then, im not sure if ill be able to or not. I like the idea of having a job for a few years to get some experience and travel and see what parts of the country/world i like since my family was poor and we couldnt really travel too far other than to see some family in a different state. Ive only been in PA and NC. i wanna see whats out there and then decide where i want to live.

I see. The safest way to achieve that would be to become a good salesman, but that's no trivial thing. Some would say it's impossible if you don't have it in you. But sales people are on the road a lot, and even if you are a car salesman (which can pay a lot) it's easy to hop from one city to the next, as long as your former employer can vouch for you.

Another way is to become a location independent freelancer, doing shit like web design, or set up an online business (blog, e-store, etc.). As long as you have an internet connection available, you are working, and you can do it from coffee shops all around the country (world even). The problem here is that it's a very crowded space, and the people that succeed have to usually spend 2~3 years making almost nothing before getting on their feet.

you can probably work your way to a more managerial position inside whatever company you're working for right now and from there you can work on getting into a business relations position (i.e. dealing with suppliers and customers, like sales but even better since you're dealing with companies not the public) which will probably get you plenty around the country

Is chemical engineering an ok path? When I graduated high school I had no idea what I wanted to do so I basically chose that at random. The way I see it is you can do:

B.S. -> industry ->masters ->industry (pharma, cosmetics, oil etc.)
or
B.S. -> med school -> medical profession of choosing
or
B.S. -> non meme tier law school -> IP attorney
or
banking internship + CFA + finance minor-> B.S. -> banking job

or am I completely wrong here?

It's not the quickest way to learn Math, but it's a fireproof way. Even if you have no talent for it, if you watch all videos and master all exercises from the very beginning, you'll end up learning Math. But it has to be from the beginning, Math is about learning the building blocks and practicing to enhance your problem solving skills.

I used it in my first semester of college to fill the holes in my high school education and get me through calc. I, it was the first time in my life that I didn't struggle with math. Watched all the videos in double the speed and mastered all the exercises, took me about the entire semester.

Go STEM. Degrees and fields. Not even a question.

I got a meme degree (Communication) and lucked out by getting a decent job at the corporate office of the place I worked at during college. It's a cool ass job and it pays well, but I'm probably one of the 1% of non STEM graduates. Meanwhile my computer science buddies effortlessly make 20k more a year than I do, and I make pretty good money for being 6 months out of college. I don't necessarily regret my choice but I'd have gone STEM if I could go back in time.

What's the problem? The guy won the lottery as far as having family who can support him and the intellect to follow through on it. He took the opportunity instead of being a useless NEET or becoming a plumber. His specialization is more rare and needed than most trades. Not really seeing what problem you would have with this other than some kind of envy for not having been afforded the same opportunities in life or maybe just wanting to feel like your chosen path is superior to all others. Maybe it is the best option for you, but not necessarily everyone else. That's one inherent flaw with true fascism. It rules out potentially superior possibilities along with the shitty ones.

This might not be a popular answer, but I chose to get certified to teach high school and it's been working out well for me so far.

A couple of reasons why I'd suggest it:
1. School districts like to hire guys, since there is a shortage of male teachers and we get better results from students.
2. If you're smart, the job can be a lot comfier than you'd think. Most teachers graduated in the bottom third of their class; if you're far above that average, you can have your pick of school districts, classes, etc.
3. The pay isn't stellar, but it can be pretty decent. Chances are, there's a lot of variance in pay in your state. You can find the highest paying district and focus your efforts on getting hired there. After a couple of years experience and continuing your education, you can have a very good salary.
4. You get to red pill kids and they LOVE IT.

Honestly our job market is fucking terrible at the moment. I did a BE(Hons) and it took me 7 months to find an engineering job, and that was only due to having a friend who worked there.

If you can do medicine, or have high grades in law you are sorted. You need to have contacts to succeed in STEM or business, and you need to be a suckup to succeed anywhere else. If you want money, do a trade. Electricians make shitloads and are in short supply.

If you're interested in something, by all means learn it - there's just no point in paying 8k + cost of living per year for a piece of paper that isn't going to make you any more employable. BSc in physics and zoology will do nothing for you unless you intend to follow up in teaching.

Conservation would be rewarding and enjoyable, if I weren't such an autist I'd probably have gone for a career in that. There'd be few things more fulfilling than being paid to spend your time in our national parks if you're into that sort of thing. I know of a few people in the industry, they all got their jobs because of internships they did at uni - so if you go for that, do internships.

Oceans can go and fuck themselves, they're shit. Again, careers are pretty limited too, the best bet in this field would be working with oil or mineral exploration companies, which is something you might not care for if you're into conservation and the like

I just don't like oceans. You can never see the end of them. I look out over the pacific and its terrifying, knowing that if I were to set out in a straight line it'd be thousands of km before I reached land.

Also, the ocean is cold and shit in NZ. Maybe if I were living on the gold coast I'd have a different opinion but there's nothing nice about the beaches of the south island, other than how they're usually quite close to forests and hills

>>
>>133710627
Yeah I never go to the beach as well bcause they're cold as fuck (I'm south islander too)
However I would brave the cold to explore our oceans, in fact I probably wouldn't have to brave the cold because most deep sea exploration is done with robotic underwater machines that are operated from land

Freemasonry is big in the military, Id say if you went into a field was lots of free masons, joining would benefit you. But at the end of the day its a gay boys club that tries to act tough lol. If you ever see that shit, talk shit to one and theyll try to fight you, generally all super pussies tho and you can beat em up.

You won't be out of job if you can actually get a degree in it. If you are United States you will be in debt, but you can work that out with working since law pays well.

Don't fall into the meme "if you aren't top tier school you cant find work with law profession".

But it's really hard shit. Lots of reading. Long nights. Books. Thinkening.

Not that some prevalent products are not known to the consumer because they're used in the production/management level.

Law is the most soul draining field there is.

I spent 3 years in corporate law, and everyone there were just as fucking miserable. The only reason the young ones held on was because they knew that they'd get the big bux in a few years. The only reason the old ones held on was because they had a huge fucking mortgage and alimony payments coming up.

I got the fuck out of there, and except got a cushy government job that had zero to do with law.

Blog post but should help.

All good, I was in your situation my freshman/sophomore year. There is STEM if you like working in a lab and not talking to people. However, if you want to make a lot of money (>200k) and move up the social ladder, you won't do that unless you are going to MIT or equivalent or live in Silicon Valley which is NYC tier cost of living.

We live in a capitalist society, so business will be more profitable. However, good grades are really only half the fight. You also need to network and land internships in order to get your foot in the door. If you do not have many social skills, remember it is a skill and can be learned.

There is finance (with money), operations (running the business/corporation), consulting (getting paid a fuck ton telling corporations how to make more money), and other positions.

Below are some communities focused on finance and business in general. (They can be major prestige whores on these sites but don't worry, you can make up for it with an MBA.)

Also, if you go to a non target (not top tier) school, focus on getting as high of a gpa as possible. You will land a decent job after you graduate. Then, work as hard as you can and be friendly with your bosses to get promotions. Do some charity work on the side, and apply to business school. If you get in to a top 15 school and work hard/network harder, you should come out starting mid/high 100's by 28

This, and being comfortable speaking in front of large audiences is golden in business.

There are thousands of courses that teaches both.

>What are the best careers and majors in this time of political and economical crisis?

Depends what country you're from but certain fields such as medical fields (Paramedics, Doctors, Nurses, specialists) are good.

>Why medical fields?

With an over abundance of immigration into western countries bringing in diseases and with anti bacterial resistance looming we may see a high demand for medical related jobs.

Increases in immigration also bring crime and homicide/attempted murder/acid attack victims/rape victims so if you're a paramedic or doctor or nurse, demand will increase because of those factors.

Thank you charitable anon, I will visit these sites. You must be pretty successful to have this knowledge. To be frank, the whole concept scares me to some extent, specifically because of the level of my social skills. It's getting better, however.

How long does this take? I'll be up for the job again in two years. Everyone says they love me, it's just a few people who say I'm cold. I also had the job last time, but there was some unfair (misogynistic) attacks against me.

Good luck brother. The good thing about business is how diverse it is. If you love crunching numbers all day, there is finance. If you enjoy managing people or a specific industry (Cruise ships, oil, fucking paint thinners) there is the corporation side. If you are entering college, make some friends and socialize, but don't make the mistake like me and become a degen your first semester.
