People aren't becoming more mentally ill. It's just that doctors diagnose way more specific in the western world.

A few years ago you'd probably just be "odd", now you're a special person who suffers from god knows what syndrome.

I've thought that too but even the suicide rate is increasing. It does seem to suggest that there is a true increase in depression and other illnesses.
