It was not retard. The space shuttle was a reusable orbit and reentry platform. The majority of its launch costs were lost because it dropped it's main fuel tank in LEO. It's SRBs were recovered and refurbished but the costs were extreme because they were being pulled out of the ocean and took signifigant damage from the sea water.

SpaceX's reusable first stage and powered landing orbiters are a major game changer in terms of cost. Most estimates put the price drop of launch materials at about 5x cheaper.

Everything they've built is human except for their engine pump which needs to be refurbished before the crewed dragon can fly. But they're already working on that and they've proven how quickly they can engineer solutions to problems. They had to retool the engines anyway because they were switching from kerosene to liquid hydrogen fuels.

I would just sage but this is a topic that me, an engineer, and other fellow engineers have been getting frustrated with as we are told be as ethical as possible and this man is not.
Elon Musk is nothing but a scam man who sells hype to gain tax dollars and other private idiot dollars to infest and fund his dumb ideas while lining his own pockets. It what commies see everything wrong in his crony capitalism and what capitalist hate being associated with.
SpaceX did a great thing with reusable rockets but is not the only company doing it. The idea of calling it a privatize space corporation is laughable because he ends up with a net loss in his company only to have it boosted with corporate welfare and moving money around. There is then the big issue of him claiming he such a great inventor when he only comes off as a guy who had money to throw at an idea and have others do all the work. He underpays and overworks many of his employees with a abnormal drop out rate as well for such a business in the industry.
Tesla is his biggest scam that only benefit the wealthy or the retarded middle upper class. The cars he build are not of the build quality for the price and further helps him through corporate welfare as he sales vehicles at a lost and getting tax credits for those who are buying his apple tier product. His Model S was the best it can be, the Model X shows the decline, and the Model 3 is the bare fucking minimal he would want to do and is what is becoming the modern shitbox.
Solar City is doing alright but its heavily subsidize by the government and he just uses it to further move money around.
Hyperloop is probably his biggest mistake in showing what he really is about. An idea so great and new it has to work, right? No, the idea is a literal pipe dream. The math is there but the scale of such a project is never brought up. Everything you will here for years will be a downsized test.
Boring Company is pure autism that doesn't understand geology.
