I've had to travel to Chicago a few times, and I've always hated it. It's not as physically disgusting as West Coast cities, and the areas I've been too are no worse crime wise than East Coast cities. However, the people there (even in the Cook County suburbs) must be the dumbest pieces of shit I've ever met.

You need to realize that Chicago has been a one party city since FDR's time. Yes, I know that all cities are full of mindless Democratic drones, but Chicago's been at it much longer and is much more through about it. Most cities had Republican mayors in recent decades or have areas that regularly vote Republican (think Staten Island in NYC or Northeast Philadelphia). Literally every council member in Chicago is a Democrat and it's been this way since Daley Sr. controlled the city. Speaking of Daley, therein lies part of the problem. Everyone knew Daley was a crooked guy with mob ties, but everyone just mindlessly went along with whatever he wanted until he died.

So basically you are living among the Borg from Star Trek - a hive mind incapable of doing anything without orders.
