The first mistake you've made is actually commuting on an expensive (and most importantly - expensive looking) bike.
You just don't do it. Get a decent old frame, make it mechanically impeccable, get good tyres, slash your bike seat with a knife and go haywire with some coarse sandpaper, than cover it with spraypaint to prevent rusting. Not matching color is absolutely welcome.

Oh and a dutch style-lock on the wheel. They're quite useful because they're permanently attached to the frame (so not a lot of time to lock it) and a potential thief has to carry your bike instead of just politely riding away.

Prevention is cheaper than dealing with damage. You get a gun to discourage potential threat from ever happening.

Copfag here. Public transportation is a mistake. Everything within a mile of our light rail system is ghetto as hell. There are some apartment complexes that resemble third world countries that we won't go into without at least 3-4 officers. And yet, they want to EXTEND the mess that is the light rail system, into my neighborhood no less. It's bad enough I had bus stops near my house, now I'm going to have to move for sure.

Darklings, homeless people (who are all drug users mind you), gangbangers, two bit thieves, etc all use the light rail to travel about the city and spread their crimes. Everything from shoplifting to armed robberies has a tendency to come back to the light rail. I can't tell you how many times I've heard radio traffic saying "suspect is headed towards the light rail platform, caller says he's getting on the train" and just like that he's fucking gone and there isn't shit we can do about it. The shitheads come by train to unsuspecting neighborhoods and businesses, and leave by train. It only spreads the poor scumbags who can't afford cars (because they're too lazy to work or have a criminal record and can't get hired) throughout the city.

Don't ask me why we can't stop the trains, this broke ass state couldn't figure that one out if it tried. We had to dedicate a transit unit to try and quell some of the issues, and they do some damn good work picking off robbers and pickpockets, but only god knows how to stop a fucking train apparently.
