Why doesn't the US just invade Saudi for its oil?

The US doesn't care about having oil, it has oil of its own. It cares about influence in OPEC. If you stop being the Saudis' buttbitch your forex is doomed.

America controls OPEC. They made it what it is. It's their invention. Saudi Arabia fulfills much the same role as Armenia did back when Persia and Ancient Rome were the major players. Naturally, Saudis grow fat, feckless, entitled and rich due to a combination of their backwards religion, no incentive to change, and the fact that all they need to do is play piggy in the middle while receiving gifts from either side. Saudi Arabia is nothing without the US and Russia; the instant there's a shift in the balance of power they'll go back to being a desert wasteland. They simply can't maintain their economy/lifestyle without huge amounts of foreign aid.
