Read up on the history of its production. The director wanted an ending that had Norton's character witnessing his little brother's death and shaving his head again in a mirror. Norton leveraged his minor pull in hwood after an oscar nominated minor role and said he would disavow the movie unless the ending was changed. Studio caved and pretty much gave Norton final cut on the movie. The director saw all of this and wanted to remove his name from the film entirely and the (((guild))) denied him alan smithee rights.
