Multiple reports now say that the entire fleet has left the Port of Sevastopol; now roaming a short fifty kilometers from ongoing NATO exercises in Odessa.
Over 25 NATO vessels are operating in this region; including a handful of US destroyers and missile frigates.

Are we overdue for a happening, my friends?

Well then, let's see if NATO is up for some real exercise
Oh boy, some frigates and diesel boats going out for a drill. Not much of a happening.

This drill was announced out of no where inside a disputed territory that 90% of the world does not recognize...
Nothing here is routine anymore.

It's a combat readiness check
Just saber rattling their rust buckets around and hoping they don't sink

If Russia was planning on doing anything serious then the Admiral Kuznetsov would have sortied as well.
Readiness drills are conducted out of the blue sometimes to gauge the actual readiness. When drills are announced prior then the commanders know to have their crews be ready. Then it's not a very effective test,

>Admiral Kuznetsov
Poor old Kuznetsov is in the dry dock from what I can tell (nearly sank while conducting combat operations in Syria.)
Crimea is so fortified that Russia could launch all areal sororities in the Black Sea via Crimea; not carrier needed.
