First of all what your jewish friend fails to understand is that herd immunity isn't about eradicating a disease, it's about greatly reducing the potential for an epidemic to occur. Herd immunity is about breaking the chain of infection and it provides protection to those who are incapable of being vaccinated due to complicating health issues. Herd immunity =/= 100% protection.

Your graphs are looking at deaths. I don't know the sources of those but regardless as treatment becomes more advanced you would of course expect to see less deaths. Search for CASES of X instead. Here's a WHO article on that

So our body can defend against disease. In case of bacteria they are simply eaten alive. In case of viruses, since they are too small to be eaten, we need to go through paperwork, identify them, produce antibodies, that act like handcuffs floating in your blood and inactivating viruses, lumping them together and preventing them from doing shit until the virus-clot is eaten or pissed out.

The general idea is, that if you know how to fend of a dog you will be able to fend of a wolve. This does indeed work. Most of the time at least. Sometimes the idea is to give you dog-viruses and let the body fight them. Then it remembers the fight and can use that knowledge with wolves. Sometimes though we used stuffed wolves, that are already dead (virus hulls for example) so our body can learn with practice dummies. In case of toxins, produced by bacteria, we get a shot of cooked toxin, like eating snakes to get immune to snake bites. This works, because the body defends against molecules/toxins the same way he does against viruses, with antibodies.

So in case of Diphteria or Pertussis for example, you will carry and transmit the bacteria without symptoms.
In case of Tetanus it gets even more bonkers. Tetanus isn't even transmittable and with modern wound treatment, far from being deadly. And I am not even talking about Hepatitis, which your kid needs to share a needle with some junky or have unprotected sex to get it.
