You're right that Orthodoxy and Catholicism are practically the same. They are both the same Church. It depends on what part of the Catholic Church you have issues with.

Orthodoxy seems nationalistic because of its structure. Each Orthodox Church is granted autocephaly based on national borders, but the Churches are still under the Patriarchate of Constantinople, much the same as the Archdioceses of Spain are under the authority of the Bishop of Rome.

Make your decision based on your faith in Christ and his Church, and not for reasons of nationality.

Christianity is a fundamentally flawed religion. The concept of salvation is a terrible one, it creates a society of entitled scum who believe they can commit crimes and then still deserve to be saved. Salvation doesnt even make sense. Do you know that the Revelation is written in the order on the Jewish temple liturgy? Just off the top of my head, the writer's mention of "silence in heaven for about the space of half an hour" was the point in the temple liturgy that the high priest took the blood of the sacrifice into the temple. The Byzantine rite:
Coming from Byzantium, beeing as I told you about, it spread where Byzantines spread or got into with missionaries following churches fall under this rite:
-Greek-Orthodox (For Orthodox Greek People in Greece, Cyprus, Thrace and Anatolia(Turkey)
-Serb-Orthodox (For Orthodox People in Serbia,Montenegro,Krajna(Serb territories in Croatia),Bosnia and Republic of Macedonia(captured our Patriach after Independence so they could create their own,but that is an ethnic conflict too)
-Bulgarian-Orthodox Church
-Romanian-Orthodox Church (Romania,Moldova&Bessarabia and Bukovina)
-Georgian-Orthodox Church
-Russian-Orthodox Church(Counting for Russia,Belarus and Russian parts of Kazhakstan&Ukraine)
Then there is the Armenian rite,they have another rite because they are so isolatedand got Christian early,they have more singing and are intense:

Then we have Coptic Christians with the holy City of Alexandria beeing precious to them, they are isolated,they are pretty religious and conservative and compete with influence from Byzantine Rite church they are present in Egypt and Ethiopia:

If you are going to Serbs, expect coat of Arms and Songs about Kosovo,that's just how we are :D We stay and listen to priest and his singers,he says something from bible and you answer "Amin" or "Gospode pomilu" mostly, just copy the others behaviour, it is a bit darker in church and full of insence,simply concentrate and enjoy your soul, they mostly speak Serbian or sometimes Old Church Slavonic, there will be some English, you'll et used to it.

Yes Slava is a very important day, If you know Greek Name days, it is similiar to that, just not replacing Birthday and beeing about the house Patron. You beeing Spanish is no Problem, we like Spaniards, you are Mediterranean and Southern European too, look simliar and your Country is a hot place, with good athlets and a king on top, also you're People like live and are happy, that's very important, but your Country supported Serbia with keeping Kosovo, you will be loved, just always be friendly and they will be friendly backwards. Normally Serb-Orthodoxy is for Serbs, but you don't have to Serbify yourself, learn about faith and have religious zeal, learn about our culture and history nearby. Learn some Serbian , don't overstretch your powers, just go easy on it. Just sayin: It's the "National Churches" mostly for "nostalgia-reasons". To experience their traditional customs they used to have at home. But infact - maybe in the beginning you'll be looked upon suspiciously - there is no restriction on "nationality".

Orthodox faith is not about speaking Russian or being Greek. It is the correct praise and teachings about our Lord Jesus Christ.
And personal experience: I'm German and I have been welcomed in our parish from the beginning - with a bit of suspicion at first - and since them have been integrated dearly into the covenant. I receive the same love as any other "OG practitioner".

The problem is that by rejecting the papacy, many doctrines have popped up. Aerial toll houses among them. Some orthodox accept them, others reject them. Also monophysitism. Listening to cases against the papacy are typically brought into the church from protestant converts. The early church writings are pretty clear about the primacy of Rome. In my comparison of Catholicism and Orthodoxy upon my conversion from protestantism, I found that pride is the common factor among rejection of the papacy. A significant portion of explaining why one is Orthodox or protestant is based upon explaining why one feels they do not need to be in communion with Rome. That in and of itself is quite telling.

The Orthodox have valid sacraments though, so that is what is most important. The Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom is beautiful.
