This doesn't actually contradict that, but it shows that they would've accepted (lawful help) if offered. If they were willing to receive a tip off about an investigation by Russian prosecutors, were they willing to receive tip offs about hacked materials?

If you read the emails he released you see that the guy who arranged the meeting was likely a plant(and it was his claim that Russian govt wants to help Trump), the woman is part of "pissgate" related group(which was proven total bullshit) and in the end nothing criminal happened even if he literally met Putin and he handed him pendrive with leaked emails.

How I see it - they've tried to get him to think that that women was indeed Russian contact and he would act like he would normally act in contact with Russians, had Trump campaign colluded with them. Of course all of this was recorded, but the recording was worth nothing since there was no actual Russian contact before and that's why it isn't released.

However, speculation that there was some meeting is better than nothing when your narrative fails.
