I wouldn't know anything about how the self driving car works. In terms of programming at least. I can only assume that the sensors pick up the pedestrians in front of it and stop. Having it swerve into a road block and crashing into it makes no fucking sense. Cars have breaks, which the computer would use in the event of sensing something infront of it. So it just stops.
