Wrong.

You're not transferring information. You're merely inferring information.

Imagine a "Morse code" type of entanglement device that could be used for espionage. Two spies have this device with an electron inside of it that is entangled with the other device.

When Spy 1 is alive, electron 1's spin is 1/2. When Spy 2 is alive, electron 2's spin is -1/2.

When Spy 1 is dead, electron 1's spin is -1/2. When Spy 2 is dead electron 2's spin 1/2.

In both cases, no actual information is being transferred. The only thing is that because these two particles are entangled, one can INFER information from their spins.

That's the whole idea behind utilizing entanglement. It could be used for instantaneous FTL communications.

It's also the longest distance entanglement that we know of.

There was this proposal to do an experiment with the ISS from 2013:

http://iopscience.iop.org/article/10.1088/1367-2630/15/4/043008;jsessionid=5CFF82AFC750F50A01B95DD2E0D7B9E3.c2.iopscience.cld.iop.org

But I don't think they ever did it officially.

Of course, who knows what sort of experiments the US gov't and NASA have already done which they've kept under wraps. If anything the US is letting China get the "first" officially so that no one knows just how far they've progressed their technology...

Your shit is so retarded. Go look up what the fuck actually happens, because you don't transfer information between the two entangled "receivers" instead you're ensuring the receivers receive identical particles with identical states and phases.
>>
>>133287474
>Still light-speed barrier like everything else.
no it isn't

that's the whole fucking point, retard
>>
>>133290711
It's not faster than light.

The particles have to be together in order to first entangle them. Then they can be moved apart, at sublight speed, and then they can be observed.

So no its clearly not faster than light. This is what all you retards don't get about entanglement. No time is saved. Relativity holds.

Superluminal communication is a hypothetical process in which information is sent at faster-than-light (FTL) speeds. The current scientific consensus is that faster-than-light communication is not possible, and to date it has not been achieved in any experiment.

Superluminal communication is believed to be impossible because, in a Lorentz-invariant theory, it could be used to transmit information into the past. This contradicts causality and leads to logical paradoxes.

This is the work of Satan and evil.
>>
So I'm confused. Quantum entanglement doesn't allow manipulating one to manipulate the other? I thought that was the whole point. The way people in here are talking it's basically just syncing them up but if you change one particle it would just ruin the sync and not do anything besides that. I don't see the point of the discovery of quantum entanglement if all it is is syncing up too particles but that's all. Maybe because I'm not a physicist.

It's a whole load of nothing.

What quantum entanglement is:
>Take one red smarty and one blue smarty.
>Put each smarty into a lead-lined bags and shuffle randomly in a way that nobody/nothing knows which one is which.
>Move one of the bags to the other end of the universe.
>Open each bag at a prearranged time.
>Earth has the red one, planet chink has the blue one.
>Information about each other's state has been instantaneously "transmitted" across the universe.

In an argument of shitposting, it's 50% science and the rest shitflinging and clickbait. The Chinese dirt peasant doesn't even know what fucking powers the computer hes being paid pennies to shill on much less quantum mechanics that can take years to get a grasp of.

No. What they did was create pairs of entangled photons on Earth, half of which they beamed up to a satellite. Then they measured the photons on both Earth and in orbit and found that 911 pairs were the same in both measurements (out of millions).

They didn't transmit information, because to even check photon means you need to destroy the entanglement.

What's "download" mean? This says nothing. Even if you assume you can somehow store information on these entangled particles, you can't move them faster than light. So they're no better than a storage container.

>This second photon then takes on the identity of the first. To all intents and purposes, it becomes the first photon. That’s the nature of teleportation and it has been performed many times in labs on Earth
It has the exact same properties as the photon on Earth. That doesn't mean we magically made the photon go from Earth to orbit. Again, this cannot be used for communication even if you assumed it was teleported.

first off, appeal to authority, but anyway...

... after Bell's theorem, and working within the framework of the Copenhagen interpretation, the outstanding feature of "spooky action blah blah" is that once the spin is determined for one of the set, the wave function collapses and determines the spin for the other... and everything else in the reality where the measurement has been made. To make the measurement and communicate results, you've already transferred information at subluminal speeds, but you've also decided every aspect about the reality that contains the experiment, namely that Bob, in this universe, has a -1, because Alice had a +, and vice-versa

the particles now exist in a universe where the results have agreed, because they fucking have to, which reeks of anthropic principle, but hey, I didn't make the rules

>To perform the experiment, the Chinese team created entangled pairs of photons on the ground at a rate of about 4,000 per second. They then beamed one of these photons to the satellite, which passed overhead every day at midnight. They kept the other photon on the ground.

>Finally, they measured the photons on the ground and in orbit to confirm that entanglement was taking place, and that they were able to teleport photons in this way. Over 32 days, they sent millions of photons and found positive results in 911 cases. “We report the first quantum teleportation of independent single-photon qubits from a ground observatory to a low Earth orbit satellite—through an up-link channel— with a distance up to 1400 km,” says the Chinese team.

So you're wrong, because they don't need to "check" both sets of entangled photons. They create photons with a specific spin, and then "trust" that the qubits are the same when they check them at the destination.

Once they're sure entanglement is conserved, they "trust" the communicator not to foul the signal/entanglement en route.

You just can't read.

So you're declaring outright that we will never be able to decide the spin of an entangled particle? Bold.
>>
>>133300708
How is this any different from bigger versions of this experiment like the balls in bags thing the articles explain? Yes, if you put two particles that have the same properties in separate areas and separate them further in space why is it a surprise when they're still the same when you check them? I always read this shit about particles not having properties until you check them but why is that so and how do they know if they can't check them? I really have a hard time believing that there's no applications for any of this with how much time and money people are spending on researching them.

>>133301119
Apparently you can only measure them and not manipulate them, and as soon as you measure them the "entanglement" (which doesn't seem to be a physical entanglement at all in any sense of the word) is broken.

No, you just quantum teleport known qubits to the reciever who checks the spin.
>>133300956

Right but couldn't you develop a system so that these measurements can convey information (similar to how 0 and 1s can be used for complex things)? Then simply send your own entangled shit back to return a message. I think I actually have to look at how they send this stuff in the first place, I'm imagining a photon being shot at the satellite and the satellite measuring it when it's hit.

>>133301285
It's not complicated at all, but faggots like Neil Tyson don't explain it as simply as possible.

There is no magic in the act of observation. In order to observe anything, say your mouse right now, you have to look toward it and catch photons that have bounced off of it with your eyes. Same principle goes for any observation, you need a carrier (photons) for the information (how the mouse looks mouse). When you go into the very small parts of the universe, say quantum level, the particles you are trying to observe are so small that the photon that bounces off of them is big enough to alter their path, that's what we mean by observation changes its state and that you can't know its position and speed at the same time. If you measure its speed, the photon you used observe it will change the particle's position and vice versa if you measure its position the photon you used to bounce off of it will change the particle's speed giving it a nudge. Your mouse is much bigger than a photon, so nothing happens to it.

I hope this helps.

Yeah the way you describe it makes sense but it feels like every scientific "authority" don't really explain it at all and want to lead people to think it's magic. The fact that the word entanglement is used doesn't help either and the entanglement process seems more like it's just syncing their properties up. Basically it's a lack of information and really poorly chosen vocabulary that's confusing people.

The magic version of it is an interesting idea still though and it's a shame that that isn't really what it is.

A couple things.

The first is that if China has done it, Russia has done it 5 years ago and hasn't talked about it, and that means the United States did it 20 years ago and went dark about it.

Secondly if China did it and is telling people about it, that means they don't think it can be used for anything good.

Technically, when particles are "entangled" and exhibit what are called non-local behavior, you could say the particles become perfect copies of each other; so no information ever *needs* to travel between them, because the "information" appears in the behavior of the entagled particles over arbitrary distances instantly.

Get it? Entanglement means you don't need to transfer anything.

Think of it as a word written in code. Instead of writing the word on paper you use the properties of particles as a code corresponding to the word. You can have two sets of particles with identical properties, you can separate them and keep one with you while the other one you give to me. No one else could know what information is represented by the particles except you who created it and me who received it BUT I have to have the secret code that you used in order to read it, otherwise it's gibberish.

tl;dr: Chink military around the world could use this to send encrypted data, much like ENIGMA during WW2. The reciving party still needs a code book.
