Banks are regulated in a way that requires them to keep some of your gold in a Gringots vault, because the government is smart and realizes that if they could, they would try to INVEST every last penny of it which is risky when many people all of a sudden want their money.

You earn less in interest than the rate of inflation. You aren't earning money, you are losing it. You put $10k in the bank in 2000, which is worth roughly $14.5k today. An APY @ 2.3% would earn you about $14.3k, so you would lose out on that money rather than if you had just properly INVESTED it rather than let Mr. Steinberger keep it.

At 35% the US has the highest corporation tax in the world, which is why the vast majority of foreign earnings from US owned multinationals like Apple, Facebook, Amazon, etc. are never remitted back to the US.

The amount of money owned by US corporations, but floating around to avoid US corporation tax is utterly huge, something like $2.5 trillion dollars and probably a lot more.

The only way to actually tax that money is to have it remitted and the only way it is ever going to be remitted is to have a much lower tax rate.

I've been trying to convince people of this for years. I call it the "hidden tax". The cost of all taxes shouldered by corporations is passed on to consumers.

If you add up income tax, various sales taxes, and the "hidden tax", it's my belief that the average middle-class taxpayer pays somewhere between 60-75% of their income in taxes.
