i think asatru is a dead end unless you're on the receiving end of an honest to god oral tradition, and i wouldn't believe you if you said you were (although good on you if you actually are, just not going to take anyone's word for it).
i think the crucially important thing about hellenism is that it's a fully literary tradition, and one can truly enter into its mysteries based on the surviving texts, with no temple or priest required.
asatru focuses much to heavily on reconstruction; the proper way to grow the tradition is not any kind of rebuilding or restoration, but on new syntheses of the existing material, and honest empirical exploration.

It's not monotheistic at all. There was a creator god, or more accurately really a creative force, and then there were lesser gods incharge of the various nations and races of man.

The only way to revive Germanic paganism imo is to take this approach since the hellenic world at the dawn of Christianity was objectively the most superior, and as Christianity spread they encountered less and less learned peoples and it was easier and easier for them to convert peoples. They got a hold in Rome because of Constantine, but also because the empire was falling apart. Julian the Apostate makes a great argument for paganism and it translates so well into our modern time I think.

The point is, no one is going to literally believe in Thor riding a goat driven cart around the heavens, but taking a neoplatonic approach to the Germanic religion will give us a folkish religion a lot of people can believe in.

Like I said, there is plenty of evidence for the rituals, but not many for the WAY in which they were interpreted or supposed to mean.

It's kind of like in Tacitus' Germania or other ancient pagan authors talking about the Germanic peoples, they didn't care about the gods' names, they cared more about the people and their practices. But when Christianity was reaching the north, they cared more about the names of the gods and the pantheon than they did about rituals and their spirituality.
