A) There was no "injury" to the United States. At the time of the campaign neither Donald Trump nor Hillary Clinton were govenment employees so you can't even link them in any way to being on the payroll of the taxpayer. They were private citizens.

B) No money was exchanged and DTJ says it was a waste of time, as does everyone at the meeting. The fact is, this proves that while there may have been potental interference with a "russian agent" - it NEVER ACTUALLY HAPPENED. That the Trump campaign did not infact, recieve any information from Russians is all this shows.
You can't prosecute intent if there is no harmful action that comes out of the intent. That's prosecuting thought. Even if there was intent here, that's not enough.

C) Someone still has to prove this lawyer is working with Putin or is an agent of him, which she denies. D) Finally, if anything, the bad actor here is the lawyer on the Trump side that set up the meeting. He's the one that seems to have alluded to all the Russian info and stuff. Neither DTJr nor the lawyer say any of that occurred at the meeting and the Trump team thought it was a waste of time. Sounds like the connecting lawyer was blowing smoke to sell DTJr on accepting this meeting, and it's that smoke that the press has been following.
