When I was an active member, I'd have to say that was the best part by far--so many nice people who are willing to give their Saturday to you when you need it.

Not true. Mormons are some of the nicest people I have ever met, even to non-Mormons. Just one of many examples: A few years ago, I had bought a new computer desk and chair, but had to have knee surgery before it had been delivered to my place. Boxes were sitting on the porch, but I couldn't move them into my house because I was on crutches. Mormon missionaries, came by to talk to a neighbor, saw the boxes on my porch. Were amazingly considerate and asked if I needed help with the boxes. I tried to decline, but they insisted they wanted to help. Not only did they move the boxes inside for me, but also put them together for me. They didn't try to convert me, just had a good conversation on many different subjects as they happily put my desk and chair together. Only would take water in exchange, even though I offered them money, or at least to pick them up some dinner, since they stayed to almost their curfew. (yes, missionaries have a curfew) They declined it all. Gave their cell number, said they had one more year in the area on their mission and if I needed any help with anything to give them a call. They even came by a month or so later to see how I was doing. Most well behaved, well mannered, 19-20 year olds I have ever met. Is their religion a bit odd/different when compared to other christian denominations, sure, but just because they have unique beliefs doesn't mean they are bad people. They have always been very well mannered and respectful every time I see missionaries or Mormon families.They also do a lot for the community I live in as well. I don't see the local muslims acting respectful or doing anything that doesn't benefit themselves. Nothing for the community, and are rude as fuck to anyone they meet out and about.

No, they asked if I went to church and I told them which church I went to. They didn't ask again. They never brought it up. We talked about science, computers, vidya games, what they were going to college for, politics, guns. (they were both republicans, very red pilled) I asked them about some questions I had about some of their practices, they answered them. They didn't press or anything. I was raised strict orthodox, and understand what you are saying. I also understand no group is 100% saintly (that is just humanity), but their values they raise their families with do have a positive impact in the community, and I respect that. Catholics and Orthodox used to teach their children values and morals, but, at least in this country, that sadly disappeared. Today's families don't invest the time in their families and society is a mess because of it.

Strict Orthodox in the sense my family (before passing) was old school orthodox, and were upset at how the church had changed, in the modern day, to attract more people to attend. Here, where I live in the US, it is MUCH more lax now. Hell I've seen people wear jeans to church now. That NEVER would have flown when I was a kid, never. You got beat for not dressing for church, and when girls came to church with makeup were ushered straight away into the bathroom and made to wash their face. That doesn't happen now.

My grandparents/parents, ate, slept, and lived, the church. That is no longer the way a lot of Orthodox live. They have become lax, part time practitioners, some don't take it as seriously, go to church when they feel like (mostly on major holidays), etc.
I understand Orthodox doesn't like roman catholicism as they feel it is an abomination of the true church, I know, but there were a lot of roman catholics in the community I grew up in. I was trying to make a point that they, back in the day, also used to raise their families with some morals and values, because even they used to be more structured, but that's not true today. (Even though they like to purport that they do, especially here on this board). Was just a comparison, nothing to get upset over.

It's no secret that every religion is bullshit. We all know full well Jesus wasn't killed and suddenly came back to life or that Noah didn't gather 2 of every animal on earth and put them on an ark he made.

The value of a religion isn't in how "real" their stories are. It's in the culture they promote and the morals they teach. In this regard, the LDS Church is too notch.

America in particular needs a centralized traditional religion. We have a unique culture that calls for a religion based outside of the Jewish Luciferian religions of Europe like Catholicism.
