1. Geographical - it is a hollow open to the north.
2. Historical - the County of Klodzko/Glatz was annexed by Brandenburg (called Prussia) in 1742.
3. In 1946 we wanted to exchanged some part of it and other territories for territories in Czechoslovakia inhabited by Poles (Zaolzie - small parto Silesia between Ostrava and Cieszyn, part of Spisz/Spis aroun Jaworzyna, part of Orawa/Orava south of Babia Góra/Babia Hora).
But Czechs decided to attacked us. Soviets tidied it up quickly.

South part of it around Kudowa/Chudoba wasn't a part of County of Klodzko but was annexed in 1742. It was called Czeski Zakatek (Czech Corner) since some Czechs still lived there in 1945. That is why the pass between Kudowa and Klodzko Hollow is called Polskie Wrota (Polish Gate).
