Does the coming VPN ban fully protect China from western degeneracy and SJW?

China's Great Firewall may squash VPN workarounds by Feb. 1

China is ordering the country's three biggest cellular carriers -- indeed, three of the biggest cellular carriers in the world -- to block users from accessing VPNs in the first place
>>
haha one of my friends went to teacha da engrish in China, gonna get screwed if they ban VPN's

China is plenty degenerate without the help of the west or the internet.
>>

Lack of empathy or morality isn't "degeneracy"

Degeneracy is society committing ritual suicide aka Europe/USA.

You are confusing the two things.

Except China is on the ascendancy. You could call it degeneracy if it was still the cultural revolution.

Presumably that's going to make international companies and expat workers abandon China if only because it's near impossible to get anything done these days with most of the net blocked. Plus it'll make China globally uncompetitive, although they may not care at this point.

China only cares about propping up local companies anyway. They only want international companies to come there so they bring their IP over for locals to steal.

As long as they control so much of the world's manufacturing and have the capacity to bootleg literally everything Chinese companies will continue to be able to produce knock-off shit in mass quantities.

There isn't much margin in cheap knockoffs. China needs to earn foreign reserves if only to buy oil and other needed minerals, and to keep raising the living standard if only to keep the people from revolting.

If Chinese companies and workers can't compete globally because they're blocked off from the internet then things will definitely suffer economically. It's short term stability (sheltering people from outside news/influence) vs long term economic stability, basically)

>>
OK, so firstly this is unlikely to really happen, this kind of news come up all the time and is never implemented.
This article seems more specific than most of them, so they may attempt a block of some kind.

In terms of technical feasibility of that, They can absolutely block OpenVPN (the majority of vpns) at any point without so much as a problem. They can do that right now. The GFW performs deep packet inspection on all connections leaving the country, identifying encrypted/unreadable streams.

All encrypted connections suspected of being OVPN are followed up by the GFW attempting to connect to the server with the OVPN protocol, if it replies back the IP immediately flagged and added to the throttle/block list.

As it stands, I suspect they can block shadow socks with some reliability, but I don't think they have it down well enough to implement large scale without risking wholesale blocking of legit websites and IPs. I think currently they are throttling potential shadow socks connections, which they identify based on usage patterns, and will then kill any that goes above 100KBs before 1am~ish.

Due to shadow socks nature, that doesn't really stop it from being useful and hinder browsing too much, but you do need multiple private server to really get going gud.
>>
>>133206071

The GFW is not any single set up, it is the responsibility of local ISP to maintain and keep it up to date. I think the hardware and software they use is probably standardized to a certain point, but the actual management certainly in part is done at the local level.
>>
They can just maintain whitelist of domains and block everything else. Registered businesses have the right to apply for inclusion of their own infrastructure to the white list. Problem solved.
>>
>>133216407
>when an entire container storage blows up to scare away foreigners
>>
>>133220366

They could do this and it would be very effective, but I honestly think at that point it would prompt a much bigger response from the locals.

A lot of the locals view the whole GFW thing as acceptable to a point, but if it starts fucking with their ability to make money (any it will), they will go ape shit.

They can't
Simply without vpn you can't conect to western server, work remotly, work on server. All corporate offices have vpn for remote workres.
>>
>>133220596

You have to use the bridges as anon mentioned, which is essentially a semi-private node.

It is slow as a hell though, even more so than normal for TOR, and I am pretty sure they can block it based on usage stats alone, let alone deep packet inspection.
>>
>>133220680
it was the Tianjin explosions, container storage facility blew up killing 173 officially but likely higher in reality due to China's censorship
>>
>>133220699

Corporate offices have the "option" to buy a special VPN just for their use, it is likely that if the Chinese gov went full blocking on VPNs, they would also force these offical VPNs on the companies or invite them to leave (taking nothing with them).

And everyone in east Asia and America too.
>>
>>133221272

I mean, they categorically do if they are based on the OpenVPN protocol, that is frankly a trivial thing to do and an unwrapped OpenVPN session won't even connect most ,if not all, of the time.

Most Paid VPNs use OpenVPN running through either SSH or TLS, but both of these have draw backs. SSH is heavily slowed down and throttled at all times, and any particularly long lived (15m-45m+) TLS session is interrupted and the server IP added to the "fuck you" list.

Block paid VPNs is even easier than blocking free personal connections set up by individuals as the additional connections from other users helps them quicker identify servers to block.
>>
>>133206677
Lol this is entirely untrue. China is large in population and geography but this doesn't not equal being large in sustainable internal capital flow, internal infrastructure, or varied balanced markets. China's economy is totally dependent on the trade markets of the west.

>china

>>
>>133221544

I doubt there is a country in the world, including the US, that can field a more advanced censorship system than the GFW.

From a technical perspective it is a thing of beauty, and if the rumors are to be believed heavily uses machine learning and AI on their deep packet inspection data to identify users and wall jumping of all kind.

The majority of those people moving to cities and towns will be working low level factory or construction jobs, they will be more engaged in the economy in general then in their rural communities, but the Chinese government is smart enough to know they need to slowly turn those people in to a middle class, and that until they do they have to rely on exporting.

I agree with you that given time, China will be in a position to support a lot more of the countries population from internal economic activity, but this is many years away.

1500USD/Mo is the high end for a well qualified (Top tier uni education) white collar worker in a city like Shanghai, in a more internal city like Wuhan it is somewhere like 1000USD.

Many many of these people save as much as possible for the chance to buy a house later down the line, because if they don't they won't get married. This is just white collar workers, migrate laborers make a whole lot less.

Currently living in south china in the GZ-SZ-HK area, not going to be more specific because I know of a few people who could probably ID me from this thread if I did.

We have dumps in Teir 1 cities too, I live in a gated community, and there is a dumping area (not huge, basically just a medium pile) about 5 minutes outside.

I've no idea about India, but friends who have been to both say China is much much cleaner.

As for infrastructure that is pretty great, subways go everywhere in the cities and have direct links to high speed rail so you can get to HK in like 45 mins, Wuhan in like 4 hours, and Beijing in 8. Cost to go to Wuhan is about 400rmb.

In Tier 1 cities, China is very first world in many aspects and a great place to live if you can put up with the shit, in lower tier cities things become "developing" pretty quickly.
>>

Some are socially designated, some are officially designated. I have a good friend whose hometown, after several rivers dried up from the three gorge damn work, started using one of the riverbeds as their trash burning spot. They would throw everything on it, florescent lights, plastics of all kind, wood, metal etc. The town is much cleaner now, but I am pretty sure they all have super cancer, but this is a rural place so no one gives a fuck.
>>
>>133223082
There's still plenty of garbage around in China. In "tier 3 to 1" cities they have armies of street sweepers to clean though. Outside of cities, it is quickly apparent china is still developing world.

It's a question of software vs hardware. Hardware grows very fast (infrastructure), but software (human behaviours) takes generations to change.

For example, a village I lived in for a summer was like 10 hours by train + 2 hours by van + 1 hour 3-man motorcycle ride in Chinese traffic from nearest city.

They had cows share toilet stalls with people. That was 10 years ago though.
>>
>>133224275

I am not using a vpn to post to 4chan, everything I have said is fully readable to the government without correlating shit.

I am not too worried though, I am the ideal foreigner for china. I work outside of china bringing foreigner money in, which I liberally spend

I know I've spent more in the last 5 years here than a whole school of English teachers spend in their life time, that is for sure.

I also am often supportive of many of the Chinese gov actions, they put their people first and I think that is what every government should do.

All in all, I am not worried about uncle xi coming down and taking my organs because I am probably more useful to them alive at this point (if you can say I am useful at all).
>>
>>133224625

10 years is a long long looooong ass time in china, and anyone I know who was around that long ago will tell you just how different everything is.

Private shadowsocks servers honest on someone like linode will do it. Not too hard to set up and you can find some guides to explain it.

My cousin went there before. Your food is not good for our stomaches. We are too weak to your spices (and germs maybe). Indian immune system is strong, lol.

Having to drink bottled water and even that gives us the shits.

Otherwise China doesn't think much of India. Perhaps it could be said India thinks of China like China thinks of America, as something to surpass.

No reaction from either driver. What the fuck is that shit, did they malfunction? Truck driver didn't stop to fix what he could clearly see in his door mirror and guy on the 2 wheeler just calmly drives right into it.

Pissing in an ocean of piss, m8. I like to see you try, though.
>>
>>133227459

Just FYI, for people suggesting this idea. It is stupid, it is very stupid, the GFW has the ability to turn all Chinese connections into a DDoS bot, and they will fuck you back with a much bigger dick.

China is an export economy. It would suffer greatly without the west.

I'm pretty sure China can't recognize VPN traffic masked by obfsproxy.
>>
>>133201340
>China to ban VPNs

How the fuck does that work?

No more business networks or remote access?

WTF?
>>
>>133201340
>China to ban VPNs

O look a VPN running over port 80.

China BTFO
>>
>>133228806

obfsproxy paired with OpenVPN is identified based on connection statistics such as the total time connected vs number of "readable" connections & a whole bunch of other stuff.

If you use OpenVPN then generally it means everything will run through it, which means if you have a single long lived connection and no other readable
connections, these GFW can assume you are currently running a VPN and block it.

>what is DPI?
GFW is not your primitive set of rules firewall
>>
>>133229468

Anyone who says it isn't possible is retarded, as I have tried to explain higher in the thread, let the potato eater think he is smarter Russia bro.

Really hope so. Bettendorf's life revolves around Reddit, 4chan, Youtube, Instagram etc.. He needs access to these sites so he can spread his anti-white male garbage around.

Who cares. Winston went from making cool videos to being an e begging douche. Matt is a cool guy, glad he is leaving that shithole country.

Winston is a closet conservative who hates niggers. Matt is a liberal and always talks shit about Alabama rednecks. He would be the guy on the left in this Bettendorf's comic.
>>
>>133230822

Well, there is no doubt Winston hates niggers, he grew up in a South Africa. I was actually a very early subscriber to his channel. He did a lot of great village crawls, really gave people the chance to see parts of China and aspects of the country. Was just a regular guy making his way through life and it was interesting. Then at some point he decided to take on this douchey "international man of mystery" persona and it all went downhill. He acts too cool for school and shit, but it is so transparent.
