I know Italian-Americans. I have a few grandparents from there (my father's entire side). They immigrated here in the 1920's, raised families, worked hard, and were thrifty their whole lives so they could provide education to their children, grand-children, nieces/nephews, etc.

My grandmother hated gooks. She was a really good cook too. She used to be a financial officer for Wells Fargo in the 70's and 80's.

My grandfather was a union plumber. He lived with my great grandmother after my grandmother divorced him. He could've afforded to live on his own easily, but, he chose to stay with here because my great grandfather died at 54, and she was getting old and frail.

My grandfather's parents came here, and during the depression, because they were probably on the right side of the bell curve, were able to keep a house, jobs, and not waste their money.

I also know some greek immigrants. They are similar in that way.
