Literally the only college professor I ever had that talked politics other than to a very limited degree my ethics professor who's most controversial opinion was that you should listen to every side of an argument and try to be a good person was a statistics professor that constantly went on and on about how liberals don't understand economics.

Certain fields naturally attract certain kinds of people and as a consequence professors for those fields tend to match the disposition of people in the field in general.

BUT SO DO THE STUDENTS! A theater professor isn't going to turn a student liberal any more than they're going to turn them gay. If anything outliers are going to be convinced of a particular ideology by their peer groups. You are your friends.

You need fucking masters degree to work at McDonalds.

Colleges aren't neccessarily bad per se, but amount of people that graduate from them compared to other fields is worrysome. This also creates problem of lessening standards of colleges.

I've seen people more qualified for jobs that instead of going to university went straight to the job. 5 years expirience performing job is way more valuable than any degree.

Engineering is at least a white collar job unlike mechanics and plumbers, so I have more respect for them.

That said I don't see much value in being a human calculator, which is pretty much what these math-related graduates are. Engineers will be outmoded by computers which can design perfect structures and do huge calculations in microseconds.

Later my college, while already deep in the red and largely being reduced to a commuter school due to the expenses of out of state tuition, tore out a parking lot to build a fucking greenhouse while students were already being forced to park on the ass end of campus in their last half empty lot. And don't get me started on the expensive ass labyrinth and what they did to the food program.

If we're talking about college as it is now vs college as it ought to be, then I agree college is a shitshow.

I'm at a pretty good state school, the first year in the dorms was like a fucking extended summer camp. Classes were a joke, people would get drunk on weeknights and stuff their faces with fried dining hall food, most people didn't even know what they wanted to study and were in some retarded gen ed classes they barely showed up for, I'd spend hours a day in the new state of the art gym with gym rat buddies (because why not?), and there were half literate niggers wandering around (or riding around on those hover boards).

Most people shouldn't be in college, it's just the simple reality. I'll even acknowledge it was fun (now in later years of STEM it sucks) but going to a water park or summer camp is also fun, we just don't create a trillion dollars worth of debt subsidizing those.

Education is becoming a synonym for communist brainwashing. Black women claim they're the most "educated" now. College education outside of trades and STEM is becoming a certification in delusional propaganda. It's literally a negative.

Exhibit A. It creates out communist democrats. Leftists once again use a correlation-causation fallacy to support themselves. Indoctrination increases communism rather than increasing intelligence. Communists then inherently feel compelled to promote their "education" to keep the pyramid scheme afloat.

Just because you acknowledge that the system as a whole is damaged and detrimental doesn't mean you can't value the information and accreditation. That's like saying that criticizing the government makes you an anarchist.

So I take an ancient philosophy class for a requirement because I thought it would be clear from modern degeneracy

Nope, the class is taught by a gay man and we spent the first few classes discussing how Phaedrus by Plato is about how the ancient philosophers all wanted to have gay sex with young boys and that having "philia" homosex with your friends is better and more pure than having "eros" sex with a girlfriend.

The worst part is that the dyed-hair liberal girls that mainly populate the class are eating that shit up like fujoshi to a yaoi novel and the beta philosophy majors just agree with everything they say.

I was too shocked to really protest. It's honestly a surreal experience to witness this first hand at a reputable school. At least class participation is most of the grade and I can get an easy grade...

Exhibit B. The more indoctrinated ("educated") a student becomes in one of the many communist curriculums (non STEM) marketed to get them in debt, the more they become communists.

It seems too obvious to mention but here's an example of the communism in action. Delusional degree holders advocate more for affirmative action against merit-based systems. "Down with merit!" Their brainwashing is a vicious cycle that will keep dumbing down institutions and demographics that society relies on.

Fake ass poll. Fake news.
>>
>>133152391

And rightfully so. Universities are a man-made concept, and are just as capable of becoming corrupt and useless and anything else fitting that description.

>humanities, social sciences, and now law taken over by postmodern Marxists who are more interested in creating an army of postmodern Marxist activists than the discipline's actual original purpose in society
>students are graduating unprepared for the workforce; value of diplomas dropping rapidly
>the new road map for young people involves taking on a cripplingly massive debt
>young, naive students being tricked into believing that useless degrees will land them a job
>cheaper alternatives that are less friendly towards indoctrination under the guise of education exist, such as trade schools and using the internet to self-teach

Only a small number of disciplines should remain in the traditional universities. These include STEM, law, and a handful of humanities. The latter two need to be torn down and rebuilt from the ground up so that they're training lawyers, historians, English teachers, etc. rather than postmodern Marxist activists. We also need to stop fooling students into believing that Roman history or English literature majors have a wide array of job opportunities waiting for them upon graduation. They need to be legally warned that they're taken on a massive debt with no guarantee that they'll be able to pay it off, and the self-study alternative needs to be suggested.

The rest should either be scrapped (women's studies, for example) or moved to trade schools.

People on the left love to take information out of context. Quote from the meat of the article:

>Those shifts comes amid several high-profile controversies over freedom of speech on campuses across the country, including protests earlier this year at the University of California, Berkeley after scheduled appearances by conservative commentators Ann Coulter and Milo Yiannopoulos were canceled. Conservative critics have said these incidents are silencing opposing ideas, while some people who disagree with inviting polarizing figures to campus say the safety concerns in these cases outweigh the importance of free speech.

People think colleges are for activism instead of learning.

We definitely need higher education. Unfortunately, our system has been infected and become a brainwashing system. You can still learn some good things if you really want to learn a skill, but many of the classes are just indoctrination and have no value beyond elites controlling easily influenced children.

The goal of college is to expand knowledge and teach how to put that knowledge to use, not make people smarter.

A degree is just a credential that is meant to inhibit people's entrances into certain professions, and to justify paying other people minimum wage. The actual "things" you learn aren't valuable at all and are probably harmful unless you are learning a hard science, math, or medicine. Colleges are state owned businesses in essence that can continue to raise prices on that piece of paper they give out because without it you can't get a lot of job in certain industries, however that is really changing in a lot of ways. Once you leave college, NO ONE CARES about your degree, it's only a key to get into doors.

It's meant to enslave you to the debt system to ensure your loyalty, and reduce the workforce by filling up young people's time with BS.

I fully support less people going to college, more expensive tuition, and more requirements to get degrees in order to preserve the value of my own degree. This country needs more fast food, manual, and minimum wage workers, not degree holders.

this is my biggest concern as well, no one gives a FUCK about this in construction. General contractors do because onsite injuries means insurance rates going up so sometimes you will see a safety guy walking around but workers seriously do not care and safety focused contractors are far and few.

Yep, lot of morons cutting material inside where there's no ventilation. Drywall dust is bad for you too and drywallers live on that stuff. Luckily I'm accoustics / welding.

I buy my own dust masks for fiberglass/dust and keep new ones in a ziplock bag in the top part of my hard hat because even though contractors and employers are supposed to provide them, no one gives a fuck and it usually takes a full day or two of exposure until a pack is sent out.

good luck with college anon

The concept of college is just fine.
American colleges by and large are shit, and many areas of study are essentially needless brain masturbation.
When you throw in the debt "smart" people get themselves into with that sweet Chicano studies degree, there is a lot to be critical of.

When you ask a liberal about something they tend to be talking about the theory, not historical examples of something in practice. This leads to head explosions when you give them opinions often.

For the majority of people, college is a waste of time. Only people that should go to college are those who are looking to go into a STEM field or other comparable areas. Think engineer, doctor, lawyer, etc.

The problem is that people who have been told all their lives that they should go to college, end up wasting 4 years of their lives just to get a liberal arts degree, then wonder why they can't pay off thousands of dollars in loans with a job that pays $30,000 a year.

Knowledge about subject matter is interesting, but a college education isn't the same thing as collecting a bunch of Snapple caps. The value gained from a classical liberal arts degree (e.g. history, literature, or philosophy) isn't from memorizing poetry or dates. That's the least useful part of the degree. The value is supposed to be from learning how to engage texts, think critically, and form rational arguments.

Maybe it's different in the hyper-meme majors like gender studies or sociology, but at least there is a theory behind a classical liberal education as to why it is useful. When a fat dyke says that she learned how to "dismantle power structures" in her classes, then the degree's value is horse shit because you can tell it was only indoctrination.
>>
>>133190662
Typical leftwing retard. You think getting indoctrinated to believe a bunch of bullshit in gender studies classes makes you intelligent, and I suppose you think diversity is a strength right? Because that's not a failed policy in any way
