The population of Indian elephants native to india is of no concern to the population of african elephant. The African elephants are not being replaced by Indian elephants simply because their population is shrinking. Why? Because they're not in the same territory and not in the same breeding space.

A small 5000 population of ethnicity X in a tiny country isn't under threat of replacement simply because a population of 20x that amount of ethnicity Y exists on the other side of a mountain range. Only if Y decides to invade or Y is invited over by X through immigration is X and Y now competing because now Y exists in both territories and is slated to replace or breed out X. Interaction, sharing the same occupying space is key. If Y isn't there they're not taking the resources of X, not affecting X's government, not breeding with X and many other factors that would lead to the extinction of X.
