I watched the entire first season because I read the book a year before it came out and enjoyed it.

I've found it interesting that the show seems to subtly favor the Reich as well in many ways. Hitler is shown as being a stabilizing voice of peace. Nazi Berlin is a beautiful, grand, and orderly city and at least to where Ive watched isn't presented with any sense of menace that most shows insist on.

Nazi America seems mostly fine. Family is considered most important, cities are clean, and frankly they never really depict common citizens really suffering in any way. They don't seem under occupation but willing members of the greater Reich, contrasting to the Pacific States where the Japanese brutally repress whites ND are stamping out American culture.

On top of this one of the main characters, Opergruppenfuhrer John Smith is shown as being a patriotic family man with a conscience even as he's a faithful leader to the Reich.

The clue to this is that The Grasshopper lies Heavy in the book version ISN'T about our reality at all but another alternate history where the allies won but the Soviet Union collapsed and America and Britain got in a cold war.
