Trump era state car spotted testing

The GM contract was supposed to end months ago but (typical GM) it is still under development

Will be unveiled this year

you wanna armor up a pickup you really need something with a diesel, or a diesel suv like an expedition would be ideal for something like that

>>
>>133064735
>Why do we suddenly need a new one
Upgraded threats/capability and lower operating costs. Older specialty vehicles like these becomes more expensive to maintain than to develop and buy new ones as most of their parts are bespoke and made in limited batches. Once inventory starts running low, they either have to restart production for a handful of parts (not worth it), or find a replacement part from secure channels (also not worth it).

Bush smelled a bit too. Obama had to get the old white stank out, so he commissioned a new one.

It's also a good marketing tool for the American motor industry. GM, Ford, and Chrysler bid on contracts to build a new Presidential limo every 8 years or so. They plug in their product's design language to shill for their luxury brands and make their logo as obnoxiously large as possible.

The 6500 Kodiak frame ended in 2009, but of course if that's what it is then they could easily make some one-offs.

I drove one for several thousands miles and was very impressed at how it handled. I literally thought I was going to die a few times, didn't even have time to pray for my life but only think my only resort would be to pretend it was a race car, and each time it just took it in stride.

I was very impressed, and that was a bigass fixed-length truck, not a custom presidential limo.

yeah it's actually really easy to come across and anybody with any experience working with composites could uparmor a vehicle just comes down to time, materials, how many layers you can pack in there, doing the glass, sealing etc
that's where the cost of a professionally uparmored truck comes into play, a lot of man hours to take it apart, engineer the shapes of the panels with minimum interference to the stock systems, providing as much 360 degree protection as possible, testing etc
the factory uparmored mercedes are actually some of the best deals going, for basic executive protection
>>133070955
yup the kodiak/topkick/h-body were absolute beasts, with a cost is no object presidential model and now 8 years development i imagine the "cadillac-one" is extremely capable.
i am kind of curious what they did for the frame this time, probably just made a run of full on custom ones based on the topkick geometry and drivelines, since it is so far from stock to begin with, if they didn't have a pile of frames laying around somewhere
>>133073840
I wish it was a Ford, too, but GM does have more experience with this specific kind of project, and has current projects going like military CUCV programs, incl. the 3/4ton armored suburban with duramax that shares a few parts
Would rather see it done as a Navistar/Ford program, but GM has the expertise, and has had the contract for the new one since the middle of O'Bammy bailing out GM
>>
>>133077208
>i am kind of curious what they did for the frame this time
The one I drove was like a cheap wooden house on a frame. But that pic looks like some fucking bigass fucking pillars like I'd never expect on a monocoque with a low roll center.

Whether it has a 16L turbodiesel or a 12cyl screaming gas job, if the gearing and transmission is matched I have no doubt you could hoon the fuck out of it and nobody would get too hurt if you had to roll it into a ditch to avoid further fire.
>>
>>133064986
It's a Cadillac not an Audi. Seriously handling is only thing Cadillac is good at while Audis litteraly can't turn unless it's a rebadged Lamborghini or VW.
>>
>>133078061
we know for the old one the body is 5-8" thick armor on every point and fully sealed, i imagine that makes for a pretty stiff body and allows them a lot of leeway with how they mount it to the frame
also that it was based on the 4wd 6500 frame and running gear, and that the engine is some sort of Duramax diesel, i would assume the v8 but I know they call the big isuzu 6 duramax as well
also they ended up giving it some sort of additional hydraulic lift capability when obama got high-centered in israel, so i wouldn't be surprised if the new one added more adjustment to lifting suspension and body height, and did something like running portal axles to get some more ground clearance without making it look more like a full blown APC, which it is already way safer than most, probably also to allow a more V-shaped undercarriage

Car companies do this on all prototype cars. Hides all the fine details. All you can really see is the basic shape of the car. This way when they finally reveal the car the media hasn't known what it will look like.
>>
>>133079053
I would definitely want to put something on there to avoid getting high-centered if there were nothing around to drag me out or if it looked bad.

But but 6500 topkick I drove had I want to say a 6.8 duramamax v8, but apparently wikipedia says it was a 6.6 duramax. Whatever It was actually very well suited to cruising as long as you were willing to understand that it's a truck and it has to work sometimes when you're laden or at altitude.

For a presidential vehicle, it must be something different. Maybe a boosted to fuck version. Maybe something that sounds more like that op gear gas engine linked earlier. But definitely no standard duramax.

yeah the duramax v8 is a pretty beastly motor, and can easily put out 2-300% as much power as it had in the medium duty truck, obviously it'd get 33-50% as much life at that power level, but the presidential model probably has a much more expensive than standard engine, they can afford to change them earlier, and they don't see that many miles to begin with

>>133079766
They probably don't want too much power. It needs to be 100% reliable. When you start boosting the fuck out of an engine it will just overheat or blow something. Race engines make a ton of power but have very short lifespans.

The President's car needs to be quick, but not crazy fast. He has escorts that will protect him. If you outrun your escort what is the point? Then you are alone and vulnerable.

not exactly the same with diesel engines, especially if they're equipping them with higher dollar over production parts. it's just a matter of how hard it is run and how many miles. they know exactly what it can and cant take, and it is likely tuned to a nice safe power level with the ability to crank it up if needed, it's simple stuff these days.
>>
>>133080295
thats what i think to be honest bro

they give them the camo when they're late stage prototypes and they want to take them out on the test track or drive them around town to get some real world miles on them so they can look/listen for issues
they use the camo to help hide the lines so they can try to surprise people at their official unveiling
as for niche, since the C7 vette came out they've sold over 100,000 of them so there's obviously some people interested in them

yea but I mean they bought the final product there is no evidence they were all a bunch of keyboard warriors or our parents are for buying a new range rover...

If they cared so much about camo and all this BS why wouldnt they just build an indoor track?

probably because build a couples miles worth of indoor track would be a pain in the ass
they also want to be able to drive the car around in rain and snow and in less than perfect weather on less than perfect roads to really get a feel for the car and try to find problems

you gotta be trolling me.
Are you telling me they sit and wait for it to rain and snow to test the car? what if it doesnt snow that year then what?

They could easily build an indoor loop and just set off the sprinklers by lighting a match under them to simulate rain and for snow could just buy a snow machine, Japan has whole indoor mountains and your telling me they cant build an interior track?
>>
>>133081857
they wouldn't, the guy i replied to suggested they build a track inside
try and follow the conversation
>>

so the public doesnt see their car their testing hence the retardo paint job they think fools people into thinking their seeing unicorns or something. Their not fooling anyone is my point and their half assing it by not using an indoor track which is the only logical solution.

Its idiotic to think that they sit on product designs like you say waiting for snow when an indoor snow machine and sprinkler system that could be set off easily is far more efficient which is a fact. Your claming that oh the design is so secret we need to make the car look retarded as if cameras cant take pics because oh no our designs. All that trouble and their too lazy to build an indoor track? it just makes no sense. Even better they should just build an underground test bed above bedrock for stability just like we do to test nukes. This isnt rocket science people we been doing this for almost a hundy years already.

the engineers heads, i dont think their fooling anyone making their cars look goofy with those paintjobs, if they really wanted to hide the lines on the car why not cover it in feathers? Be pretty easy to dump tar on the car and just dump a pile of feathers on it. That is what they used to do in america to people all the time, a car would be no different.

One of the Beast prototypes had mentioned a Gasoline v8 and there is a video of one where it clearly sounded like a Gas V8 (Big Block Chevy) and the inauguration cars at idle sounded like a Diesel. I think there is a Diesel and a Gas version of the current Beast.

I dont own a car atm.... I go to work and back, when needed to respond I go get a car all covered which is nice even if I quit like I did :P

No need own a car here since I live in a city and never leave really, barely ever leave the room I am in and when do its off to the lab! then back again.

That's too bad. I live in a city and I walk to work. It's great, and I feel bad for the stagnation of what the guys in the lab put up.

But sometimes I take my car out and really all I wish is it was some dumpy old mechanical thing with more of a direct connection to reality.

I walk sometimes its nice, its one long stretch so no biggie.

I only need a car to get somewhere and needed it to work and get me there so always had new cars, never cared much for luxury or any of that since dont have that option, it was more to get me where I need to be.

Labs are work, someones gotta do it :P What do they put up with there it sounds bad? Where I go its just go in and do the job or go somewhere else and do it until its done :P

the inauguration car was still the old one, and was definitely a duramax
the new one appears to be diesel as well, apparently they did a fleet of 12 identical cars this time
>>
The old DTS beast that Bush and Obama used is definitely a gas powered vehicle. I think armor technology has improved to the point where you can make a vehicle look more like a Cadillac and still provide that protection needed for the POTUS.
>>
Then again, GM is working on a new Medium Duty truck with Navistar for Class 4/5, but Navistar has heavy duty chassis that could work for this vehicle as well. I do think that GM is probably using a Kodiak chassis for this thing as it is mostly a one off vehicle with a small production run.
