are you ready? since we'll be a warp capable society within a decade, we'll start to see many of our social problems disappear, war, poverty and racism to name a few. we are going to need someone to lead our unified earth government. i think it should be justin trudeau since he has shown a real commitment to advancing humanity

FTL travel is impossible
Star Trek's Federation is a brutal Starship Troopers style global militocracy that can only function thanks to the existence of matter replicators, IE magic
The Federation would also run much more smoothly if it was run entirely by whites
>>
>>133059043
Star Trek is predicated upon literal post-scarcity.

Good luck with breaking thermodynamics I guess.

The technology is literally impossible. The amount of energy required to make even the most minute amount of matter is enormous, and thus the heat would destroy any products such a diverse could manufacture. I suppose you could use energy to matter tech to manufacture helium, but nothing else.

This gives a sense to the fact that people recycle waste into their replicators.

Man, I miss the humanity fuck yeah threads you'd occasionally see on /lit/ or here on /pol/ every now and again. They were filled with stories usually written from the perspective of aliens encountering humans in the future. I quite enjoyed those threads whenever they were around.

Still going to need a source material. It may allow us to shift resources around to ease scarcity a bit, but it won't be the solution needed to make communism/heavy socialism functional.

how warp drives work the ship itself isn't being moved through space

the space around the ship is being moved instead, and seeing as expanding spacetime is exempt from travelling faster than the speed of light you can move it at a great many times faster than lightspeed if you wish

Like Michael Eddington once said:

>Michael Eddington: [to Sisko] I know you. I was like you once. But then I opened my eyes. Open your eyes, Captain. Why is the Federation so obsessed with the Maquis? We've never harmed you. And yet we're constantly arrested and charged with terrorism. Starships chase us through the Badlands, and our supporters are harassed and ridiculed. Why? Because we've left the Federation, and that's the one thing you can't accept. Nobody leaves Paradise, everyone should want to be in the Federation! Hell, you even want the Cardassians to join. You're only sending them replicators because one day, they can take their rightful place on the Federation Council. You know, in some ways, you're even worse than the Borg. At least they tell you about their plans for assimilation. You're more insidious, you assimilate people - and they don't even know it.
>>
>>133059043
I'll believe it when we have prove the Emdrive works.

I bet you a whole dollar the creation of the Space Corps as our newest branch of the military is because it turns out the Emdrive, or a related drive, actually works, so reactionless drives actually will allow us to conquer at least our own solar system.

This.
And the big thing about FTL travel people miss isn't that its primary goal is going faster than the speed of light, it's about cheating relativity so that entire ages of the universe don't pass while you're trying to reach your destination.

The closer to the speed of light you get in normal space the closer everything appears from your perspective. Once you hit the speed of light you are at all points of space from your frame of reference simultaneously, so for you travel anywhere is instantaneous. From everyone else's frame of reference you're only travelling at the speed of light and will take the normal 4 years just to reach proxima centauri.
>>
>>133059330
>FTL travel is impossible
Warp drive isn't ftl
It's displacing space to travel at lower velocities, but technically traverse less distance to reach the same goal.

No dude, watch TOS. Bread and Circuses BTFOs all of the haters on its own.

FLAVIUS: Long ago there were rebellions, but they were suppressed. And with each century, the slaves acquired more rights under the law. They received rights to medicine, the right to government payments in their old age, and they slowly learned to be content.
SPOCK: Even more fascinating. Slavery evolving into an institution with guaranteed medical payments, old-age pensions.

> Everyone is treated equally (if deserved)

> Nobody has to worry about money, they get to focus on what they like doing
> Materialism (living just to acquire physical objects) is discouraged

The only thing is, I don't see this happening with a lot of non-whites. It could be easily achievable with whites though.

>"It's a primitive culture!"

Star Trek's society is 19th Century Britain without the colonialism. They believe themselves so morally supreme that the concerns of lesser races are beneath them.

So they behave like roving bands of heavily teenagers vacationing on a nuclear powered cruise ship instead.
>>
It's all about tng. Picard is literally the perfect man. Highly intelligent, disciplined, hard-working, skilled leader, and an impeccable negotiator.

His values may seem to you as "cuck" values but you have to remember human culture in TNG has evolved past the primitive beliefs of put era. They've lived through world war 3, which everyone on this board seems to want, through more episodes of fascism.

Really the big question is this: we, as a species, have the technological capacity to destroy ourselves many times over. Do we, as a species, have the moral capacity to use such power responsibly? You have to realize the more time that passes, the higher the likelihood that we destroy ourselves. The only way we ever get to a society like star trek is we survive our very primal, basic instincts.

Individual useless freedom of self determination IN A COLLECTIVIST SYSTEM.

Yeah, its great until the Federation decides to bribe a rival space empire by giving them your entire planet turning you into a refugee and then sending the military to beat you into submission when you don't take it sitting down.

Gene Rodenberry had a massive hard on for authority, that's why Star Trek always focuses on the military because Rodenberry was a filthy commie who wanted a society where everyone obeyed orders implicitly. You're talking about a massive space empire with no property rights that sells out entire worlds for the "greater good". That's not a utopia, its an allegory for why centralized power is not to be trusted.

-Doctor
-Tom Paris
-Tuvok
...
...
...
...
Kim
...
...
...

the rest
...
...
...
Chakotay
Janeway

No because there are birds and insects flying around everywhere birthing goes faster then the speed of light. The most cringeworthy moments in DS9 were in the final season. Mainly Odo being romantic. It didn't work. The whole series really fell apart at the end. It was just silly. It's the most powerful nation in the Quadrant but surrounded by hostile nations.
Literally run by women, hippies and fucking (((vulcan))) saboteurs.
Citizens utterly delusional and uncaring due to VR tech and SJW brainwashing, living in bubbles.
So it makes sense to me they would sacrifice relatively a lot in exchange for peace.

Truth be told, as shown many times, neither their fleet nor personnel is suited for a drawn out war.

>What is start trek ?

Scifi franchise dating from 60's.

>Is it like Star wars ?

New re-boot movies are like it, but proper Trek is something far smarter, usually at it's best as high-concept soft-scifi on TV. New movies are trash made by same people that are currently making Star Wars. Best Trek is arguably 90's TV-shows and 80's movies with crew from the Original Series.

Star Wars like re-boot movies probably killed it on big screen for a while with 3rd reboot movie not breaking even.

SJW are probably in process of killing it small screen as well by following footsteps of Jar Jar Abrams. Trek was always utopian and liberal, but 60's progressives believed in carpet bombing commies in jungles, since then progressives a have gradually degenerated into today's regressive SJW's. Liberals weren't always batshit insane.

Disbanded after Federation Starfleet was formed after Romulan War. At least some of the personnel absorbed into Starfleet.

Even TNG was tame compared to the degeneracy happening today. It was at most a message about how nice it would be if people could coexist and be judged only by their merits. Then today you have mass mental illness being paraded as liberation and encouraged, while what was once good is evil colonial patriarchal white privilege. That was really the core of Trek. It was a liberal utopia but at its core was a hard meritocracy.

Bingo. Aside from that ideological core of progressives in 60's was opposing tyranny.

Huge part of crew making TOS was WWII veterans. Gene Roddenberry flew B-17's in Pacific, he may cooked his sortie count a bit to ensure getting distinguished flying cross, but he made enough forced landings damaged planes after missions that his survival was pretty unlikely. Matt Jefferies who ran art department (designed set, props and models) for TOS was flight engineer of B-17 in Europe. DeForest Kelley was gunner on bomber, served in state side training unit and got into acting after he got assigned into making training films. James Doohan was kinda insane.

>Doohan joined the Royal Canadian Artillery and was a member of the 14th (Midland) Field Battery, 2nd Canadian Infantry Division. He was commissioned a lieutenant in the 14th Field Artillery Regiment of the 3rd Canadian Infantry Division. He was sent to England in 1940 for training. He first saw combat landing at Juno Beach on D-Day. Shooting two snipers, Doohan led his men to higher ground through a field of anti-tank mines, where they took defensive positions for the night. Crossing between command posts at 11:30 that night, Doohan was hit by six rounds fired from a Bren Gun by a nervous Canadian sentry: four in his leg, one in the chest, and one through his right middle finger. The bullet to his chest was stopped by a silver cigarette case given to him by his brother. His right middle finger had to be amputated, something he would conceal during his career as an actor.

That episode was so dumb. What woman wouldn't want their youth back? She'd only have to be a child for a few more years and then get an extra 20+ years of youthful adult life

Well almost all comedy episodes are.

>What woman wouldn't want their youth back? She'd only have to be a child for a few more years and then get an extra 20+ years of youthful adult life

One that wants to have functional relationship with her daughter. Given advances in medical technology in Trek 20 or so years aren't that much for them. A lot of Trek human characters lived 150+ years old in canonical and semi canonical sources. Archer, Bones and so on.
>>
>>133092620
But yes, Picard should have stayed young, as he was old af already, and obsessed with archeology, plus tons of regret for not having had a family etc

It's replicators and dilithium crystals.

No, it is culling the weak and civilizing savage parts of humanity with nuclear fire in WWIII. There aren't sub IQ 70 dindus left after that.

you still need to get those atoms from somewhere. you can 3D print a muffin but someone still had to grow the raw ingredients. 3D printed food is just really inefficient cooking.

>>
>>133093815
It doesn't matter that it's energy inefficient. The entire thing behind the world of star trek is that they have basically unlimited energy, and the ability to use that energy to turn things into other things.
Instead of bringing a crate of food, a crate of clothing, a crate of this and a crate of that you just bring one crate and the replicator. When you're done wearing that days clothing you toss it, it is broken down into base components and then turned into your dinner. You shit that out and it's turned back into your clothing for the next day.
Replicators mean the only resource that you have to worry about is energy. And space magic in star trek means you don't have to worry about energy.

Let's say we have Star Trek esque warp travel in 10 years.
As soon as people get their hands on it commies, righties, liberals and every other group will be sending colonists to new and different worlds.
There they build their colonies independently from Earth, and the clamour for war against each other will rise as tensions build up.
What you hope for may be Star Trek, what we'll get is Babylon 5.
>>
>>133093815

There is plenty of atoms in every solar system. Turn some asteroids as whole into something else or suck some gas out of the star or gas giants. There are mining colonies in Federation in case of resources that are simply easier to get that way and there are also some materials that cannot be replicated for one reason or another.

>>133095753
>Didn't they cull like 60% of the human population in the star trek history?

Not even close to that. Just 600 million dead or so by the 2063. Then again Trek is more than once contradicts itself on what WWIII exactly was, how long it lasted and how bad it was. What is certainly known is that WWIII wasn't single conflict, it was series of gradually escalating conflicts that culminated into nuclear war in 2050's and lasted at least until 2063.

>>133096138
>What you hope for may be Star Trek, what we'll get is Babylon 5.

Babylon 5 is probably too utopian as well. I'll doubt humanity will survive that long or that any alien race will act as benevolently as Centauri in B5 with basically handing over FTL-tech.

Also Londo did nothing wrong.
